Did you know Barry Robson has scored as many goals as Jan and McDonald in CL proper?
Maybe we should play him at striker against Villarreal.

    Poor Samaras.

Fickle fans always target him the way playground bullies target the weak kid who seems too sensitive. Samaras is a very sensitive man, he can't hide it even if he wanted. When a team plays badly, or a political party does badly at the polls - or an army loses a battle, who is blamed is not always the culprit, but usually the weakest character. Skippy is as sensitive and deep as a newly formed puddle on a Newcastle pavement after 4 second rain shower. He is the type who will never get the powerful abuse Samaras gets, same with Vassel at city. Played worse than Samaras, scored less goals even though he played 20 times more games, yet he was never picked on. Samaras, as many have discovered is too soft for many fans from the British Isles and he will always be the victim when he has a bad game even if the rest of the team also * up.

About the game and his fitness. I have noticed when I am not fit, I make more mistakes. Anyone who knows football knows that tired legs miss easy chances. Balance, coordination, power, - everything is affected when you are not fit, esp coming off a month's break after an operation - an injury made worse by silly Greek doctors connected with the Greek FA. What your manager did was take a gamble, it did not work, other times it works because he is a good manager. The problem is the other strikers. Skippy, he was fit, but out of form, he could do nothing to compensate Samaras. Same goes for the rest of the team. Teams win and lose games because of strikers, but great teams manage to score from the midfield and defence when the strikers are weak. Celtic IMO does not currently have enough depth in the attacking options section. Whether it is as a striker or attacking mid or even full back, Naka and co are not enough currently. Perhaps Celtic should have put in a bid for someone like Vaz Te of Bolton in the summer and used his as an attacking RM in games like the CL one last week, who knows or even a player like Stelios who could not find a club yet always creates on the pitch. These players are not profound, but would have helped midweek.

Samaras is however is hugely talented, he has nothing to prove in the SPL. As for Europe, he has something to prove and this will come in time. At international level he is usually good as well and has undone many defences. The Celtic fans who understand football will understand Samaras's potential and his weaknesses and probably come to the conclusion with a little more time he could be something very special. The rest can bask in light that seems to constantly emit from Skippy's backside, safe in the knowledge that Skippy is never in danger of being a victim on the scale as Samaras is made out to be. I think when Samaras returns to fitness he will be effective again. Until then, he needs time, and less mob abuse and more fan support. After all, he loves Celtic and missing those chances of cource hurt him. He appears disinterested at times on the pitch but that is just his physical appearance and style when playing football, not his personality or passion. He is and always has been a confidence player, either abuse him until he leaves and watch him erode, or support him and give him the confidence and chance to be exceptional for Celtic.

I hope that some of you are just bored or maybe it's just that we all want the best for our team because some of the critical posts here are way off the mark.

Players should be judged over seasons or careers not on single games. It's like saying Tiger Woods is a * golfer because he once shot 80 something in a round of golf.

There is no doubt that Sammy has played poorley since he returned from injury but ffs lets judge our players at the end of the season.:50:
