Guaranteed champions league group stage football is a huge attraction for players. Puts us in a strong position when negotiating deals for players.

Over the moon with this. This isn't a dig at starfelt but can you imagine if we signed a CB of the same standard as ccv! Always felt this would be another loan to perm that slipped the net. Made my weekend

Yeah same. The longer it dragged on the less likely it seemed that it would happen.

The Celtic support played a massive part in Cameron Carter-Vickers deciding to pledge his future to the Hoops by signing his new four-year contract earlier today.

Time and time again during the season, the fans lifted Ange Postecoglou’s side whether they needed it or not, and that fervour for the Hoops has rubbed off on the USA internationalist and not only aided the delivery of trophies, but also helped the player make is mind up where his future lay.

The defender told Celtic TV from Texas where he is based with the USA international side: “I’m delighted, I really enjoyed last season. I enjoyed working with the manager and the group of players, and on the back of that, I knew I wanted to stay. I was just trying to get a deal done and get it over the line.”

And he said of the fans’ input: “Last season was great for me, not just for me but for the team as well, and the fans turning up, not just at the home games but at the away games.

'The support that we got as a team was amazing, and that was definitely part of it.'

“I’d heard stories and heard from players that used to play up in Scotland, but I don’t think you realise until you’re up here yourself, and it was as bit of a surprise, but it’s also really enjoyable.

“It’s great to play in that environment and atmosphere.”

That fan fervour was experienced many times last term, with two of the most enjoyable occasions being in the games when the afternoons finished with the League Cup, then the SPFL trophy being hoisted by Callum McGregor, and Carter-Vickers is looking to experience more of that next term, with the added value of UEFA Champions League group-stage football.

He said: “As a team we’ve just got to build on what we did last season. Obviously it was great to win the league last year, and we want to do it next year as well.

“And we want to test ourselves in Europe, in the Champions League we’ll be playing against some great teams and great players, so to see how we measure up will be great.”

In a few hours’ time (3am Celtic Park time), the USA will kick-off their CONCACAF Nations League game against Grenada, with each of their players also aiming for World Cup glory in Group B of this year’s Qatar competition alongside England, Iran and Wales.

So not only does Carter-Vickers have Champions League football to look forward to, he could be heading for World Cup duty as well.

He said: “The Champions League will be great to play in, that’s the best competition in club football there is, so to be involved in that will be great. And talking about the World Cup, that’s something I’m trying to work towards to be in the squad, and make sure I’m there with the USA.”

While the announcement of the new Celtic away kit going on pre-order nearly broke the internet this morning, the reaction of the Hoops support to the defender’s signing announcement this evening nearly finished off the job tonight.

His permanent signing after a magnificent season on loan was met with universal acclaim by the worldwide Celtic fanbase, but, amazingly Carter-Vickers missed out on the trending feel-good factor and said when asked if he’d seen any of it: “Not too much, we’ve got a game this afternoon (Texas time), so I’m trying to stay focused on that game really and stay away from it a little bit.”

There’s a good chance he will get an idea of just how much his signing means to the support when he turns out in the Hoops again back in Paradise - a little bit!
