Has been sensational for us so far, Hopefully be continues his form and keeps his place in the team.

Good to see a youth prospect doing well in the first two

The fact is, that in both of our competitive games so far Callum has played the full 90 mins, whilst far more experienced players have been subbed instead. The first leg in particular when the game was still at 0-0 and he was left on when I fully expected him to be subbed (not down to his performance but due to the past experiences of our young guys always being the first to be substituted when given a start) should highlight the confidence Ronny has in him and speaks volumes for his first team chances his season.

He was of course repaid for his faith in him. Good management of a good player. As I've said many times before, give our young players a proper chance and we will be rewarded with some fine first team players.

Thought the young lad was superb tonight, combined well with Izzy and got to the by line more often than not.

You should have a handle installed; at least then people might actually have to put in some effort to wind you up. :smiley-laughing002:

Anyway, back to the point in hand - you're right, McGregor's done v well since coming back from his loan. Where we differ is on the general point of the usefulness of sending players on loan. You point out that several players have been loaned and haven't gone on to impress after returning to Celtic. This doesn't mean loaning players isn't a good thing; those players would probably never have made it at Celtic anyway, because if they couldn't make it here after a spell of first team football elsewhere then imagine how much worse they'd be after a year of reserve football with us.

If we have guys who are on the verge of making the first team but aren't quite ready yet, they should be given the opportunity to get first team football elsewhere til they (hopefully) develop to our standard. Ok, it didn't work for some players because they didn't take their chance, but it's that v ability to take one's chance that makes a footballer successful. McGregor seems to have it and so the loan worked wonders for him. Do you really think a year of sitting in the reserves, desperately trying to breakthrough, would've benefited McGregor as much as starting week-in, week-out elsewhere clearly has?

P.S. Let's see if you can answer me with a reply strong enough that you don't have to resort to name-calling this time. :86:

He just plays the simple pass when its need i.e deeper and outside the box which for a youngster is brilliant. Think he suits Deila style down to a T and he is grabbing his opportunity by both hands.

he literally looks like he has been playing senior football for years, popping the ball off , moving , making space. Can not believe how well he is playing ....lets just hope it continues, could be the best midfieler we have produced in donkeys years ..that year on loan done him wonders

Excellent start to his Celtic career but we have seen this before from lots of youngsters at Celtic, he needs to prove he can do it consistently and keep improving if he wants to hold down a first team place at Celtic.

If there is anyone who can improve a player and make sure he stays on the right path its John Collins. He was a class act as a player and a total professional, maybe a bit too clean cut and professional for some people's liking....but that was their problem not John's.

Hope we don't give him the "wee" treatment we give so many of our players. "Wee Jamesy", "Wee Shaun Maloney", treating them like youngsters well into their 20s when they should be developing and becoming top pros. We're far too happy to just say "he's just a youngster ffs" for years on end, instead of encouraging our players to actually step up.

Aye not everyone who gets it is young, but we attach it to youth players far too often imo, Maloney was still getting called a youngster when he came back from Aston Villa, he was about 26 at that point. Once the player is about 21/22, it's time to step up or leave imo.
