I don't like Fortune on the wing, he has NO ability to play the ball into the box.. not much pace either.

Maloney's rightly been slated all pre-season, but he finally put in a great performance. Forrest was immense as well. Was really disappointed Kayal did not make an appearance, and Juarez got about 3 minutes. If you ask me, the only thing right about Lenny's midfield selection was McCourt and Ledley.

I agree re: Fortune. I could see him on the right in a front 3 but I think he is a a square peg in a round hole wide right in a 4-4-2. Kind of a Rangers tactic playing strikers wide and loses us true width. We are not short of wide men with Maloney, McCourt, Forrest and Brown also plays some of his best stuff wide right for Scotland. I also rate McGinn for his incredible pace and directness and excellent shot. I hope we do not go down the route of playing Fortune or Sammy wide although if we had to Sammy is better at it.

THink thats slightly harsh on Maloney. Pretty much every move went through him and was unlucky not to score, although it was a sitter. Fortune did have a good game too, one his better performances and think we now know how to utilise his strenghts. But Maloney played very well yesterday, well enough for MOT, closely folloed by Fortune.

If these 2 guys can progress and improve on this performance I see the 2 of them having a very good season

I've always liked him, sometimes I'm not even sure why, but I said at the end of last seasons shambles he was worth another year.

He can pull some incredible rabbits out the hat sometimes.

Thought we looked great, Forrest looks like he could make a big impact this season. Brown just is Brown hope he gets dropped soon.

Brown ahead of Juarez is a joke. Kayal hasn't played a game for us yet, but inclined to think Brown ahead of him is a joke as well.

Fortune was the best player on the pitch against ICT. He's been looking much better than last season.

To be honest, the only player whom I didn't think played well in this game was Scott Brown. But this isn't a surprise. Lenny, do us all a favour and get RID of him. He hasn't played well for 2 years now.

I'm not sure why but Samaras hasn't had a single bit of praise in this thread for the incisive through ball putting Maloney on a plate. I mean surely that counts as an assist! It was really well held up, timed to perfection and the pass was the right choice and weighted to perfection.

People see him hold the ball up and go backwards but I don't think they fully understand that's his job - to keep possession and not play the Hollywood pass every time he touches the ball.

Not completely blinded here though, there are a lot of fairly put negatives - that he has made the wrong choice at times (especially not squaring to Maloney) but come on, it was a solid 8 from him yesterday - had an effort cleared off the line as well mind.

Good to see Fortune getting praise for once as well. He's another that gets it tough but Saturday proves that he is a step above most defences in the SPL. He doesn't just have the strength - it's the intelligence that shines through. His only fault is sometimes he drifts out of games.

Bit harsh to say Maloney didn;t deserve MOTM though Hammer - him and Fortune were on a par.

By the way I would also say Scott Brown is our 5th best CM.

    He’s always harsh on Maloney mate…he just doesn’t like the wee man at all.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I agree, pretty much every move went through Maloney, his movement was excellent and passing was outstanding. Yes he should have scored but he hit the post for * sake, the way some people have criticised him on here you would think he put it high and wide into row Z! It’s interesting that no one has criticised Forrest for his glaring miss which was a much easier chance given that the keeper nowhere and he put it over the bar from all of 10 yards….. I don’t know, some people criticise some players over others no matter how well they play. Maloney was MOTM by a country mile on Saturday, Fortune was good but he’s not a winger imo. As someone said, he’s maybe ok wide in a front 3 but not on the wing. He just about got away with it against ICT but would he be playing there against the Huns?? Doubt it.
