I think Rodgers position became untenable but it’s been made that way. If Desmond didn’t want him he should have been sacked months ago. The statement is bullshit and lies and we’re left with a shower of lazy, not fit for purpose mandarins in the boardroom all afraid of an absentee landlord asleep at the wheel.

You would think he would take legal action if the anything DD has said was false..

Character assassination.. Character is something you look for in any manager, it could affect his future employment.

Will be interesting to hear what he says.. I still cant believe it played out so publicly tbh.. I'm all for transparency and engagement but wow, we hear nothing from Desmond for years and now this.. :56:.. it like he's opened the laptop after a few Jamesons and typed angry..

For a billionaire who's obviously very savvy it's genuinely astonishing. I'm also astonished his/our lawyers signed that off?

Desmonds statement has done rodgers a big favour indirectly i think.

Had he any subtlety he could have acknowledged the window wasnt up to scratch and unfortuntaly the manager wasnt able to reconcile with that and this was damaging the team. In order to try and heal.the division in the stand it was felt by both parties that leaving was the best option for the team.

Instead its just a hatchet job which deflects the spotlights back on their own lack of accountability.

    Maybe they didn't?

Wouldn't shock me in the slightest that DD has taken all this very personally and lashed out in such a petty fashion, thinking he's untouchable as almost any billionaire seems at the minute.

I’d suggest, given his experience, he would not be putting his name to something he believes he wouldn’t be able to back up in a court should it come to it.

However, whether he should have went nuclear or not in the first place is a different question. It’s poured petrol on a bonfire.

We still don’t have any fit strikers so I don’t know what we can do about that between now and January. You can’t win football games at any level without strikers. Maybe we’ll put Jamesy Forrest up front again rolling back the years. The dysfunction has been going on for years, the board are still there intact, the dysfunction will continue. We might win the league depending on whether the Huns continue to be * or maybe if Hearts run out of steam. Brendan Rodgers being gone today’s doesn’t change that.

I'd like to make a claim against them then because the 2nd last paragraph where he says every pound is reinvested to achieve our goals is definitely utter bollocks!

And there it is, that 3 letter word, the board’s calling card. The old heads I win tails you lose. When Rodgers returned he was labelled a board yes man, when he leaves he’s a rat. The rat is still sitting in the boardroom.

For anyone who actually believes most of that just think back to the statement they made the other week or the meetings that have been held with them by fan groups IN PERSON.

Where is our CEO in all this?

Senior board members that apparently care deeply for celtic but anytime the camera pans to them in the stands they're on their phone or laughing.

Not sure I'd call him a rat for resigning - if anything I respect him more for it - but I agree with everything else. Like always, Rodgers has manufactured an exit which can be twisted to show how he was done dirty, conveniently overlooking his own fault in how * things have become. It's his story at every club he's been at.

The board are a disgrace, but Rodgers too for the past 10 months has * us beyond belief. The statement's a riddy anaw. All we can hope now is that someone comes in with a bit of baws and positivity who can bring this squad back to life and get the fans onside.

Agreed it’s an horrendous statement. It’s an angry ill considered statement from someone who doesn’t care about the club and is reacting because he felt personally affronted. There’s something else here; he’s not the owner of the club, he’s not even the majority shareholder. However he turns up having been nowhere to be seen for ages and throws a tantrum, and personally attacks the manager he wanted to come back. It’s terrible judgment. If he wants to be an absentee landlord, appoint a board of management with the skillset to run a modern football club and eff off to the golf club and let them run the football club.

This statement is all about settling personal scores and there’s no sign that the changes that are needed are going to happen going by that.

Rodgers came out several times over the summer pleading with the board to sign quality players so that players who wanted to leave could go and attempt to build on the progress made in the CL last season. I’m not sure what else he could do and he obviously went public with it because he was getting nowhere behind the scenes. He did this with plenty of time left in the transfer window for the board to buy and sell players required. Financially it was doable and selling Maeda provided he was adequately replaced would have offset a lot of the investment required. The opportunity was there but the board took the huff with Rodgers going public on it and decided to * the whole season under the bus. The board “* us” when they * him and the team under the bus. He’s gone. The board are still there.

Aye for me walking at the close of window sends a strong message.

But think he was still within a time window doing it now.
He's persisted and proved his point of how bad the recruitment has been and how much the squad has regressed

Can debate, quite rightly, could he have adapted himself? But he done the right thing now to step aside and he can certainly still point the finger elsewhere.

Internal dislikes aside, he was shafted and he proved it to them.
Now it's on them to fix it - anyone believe they will?

How Desmond can claim he wasn't notified of issues with recruitment when he's watched (and admitted) that Rodgers has called out recruitment all * summer?

Desmond lad, you don't even come to Glasgow, what you want Rodgers to do here? Call up the minority holder who technically isn't the owner to run something by him? The chain of command is to Nicholson then Lawwel.

Desmond, if you're not hearing about issues, then you're not paying attention to the club and your staff (MN and pl) aren't doing their job

When they appointed Dom McKay with Ange that time he actually came in with a fresh attitude and talked about “modernising” the way the club operated. They (Lawwell and his cronies I suspect) got rid of him in about 6 weeks. If someone like Dom McKay is appointed again and Lawwell and his pals and their attitude is gone but this time for good; then things could change for the better.

A lot of ifs there but I suppose it’s possible now that that could happen. Lawwell and co. wanted to get one over Rodgers and use him as the scapegoat so that they can step away quietly now. If they do that at least we can then get a board of management in place to make a real attempt to actually modernise the club. There’s that “if” word again.
