How * will they be though?

The worrying thing is it seems that if we were keeping Boyata, Rodgers probably wouldn't have signed a defender. Also the John McGinn thing, there is clearly no back-up option considering he signed for Villa about 2 weeks ago maybe longer and no other moves have been made.

It seems all we really planned to do was sign McGinn and keep the defence the same, Arzani/Morgan/Johnston have replaced Roberts.

Now we dont know of any other Boyata's or McGinn's so whoever we do bring in is likely just something rushed and not someone well planned.

I admire your optimism guys, but the fact is we are NOT only not playing well, but there is certain amount of dismay and frustration in Rodgers recent interviews ,the body language is not positive and that appears to be spreading to the players on the pitch?Brendan has now "publicly" slated the board ,and now the players for their last 2 matches.
The thing is we started the season playing pretty well the 2nd half of the Rosenborg match we were brilliant, and in actual fact the first half against AEK in the home leg we were very good as well until the debacle at the back, but since the McGinn thing fell through its been all downhill.WHY? what is actually going on behind the scenes? As for the season ahead im not buying in to the media hype behind the Huns Gerrard revolution ,sure they seem a bit steadier at the back and a bit more aggressive but they are still a long long way behind the talent in our squad. In actual fact that wasn't a particularly great result for them last night ,1-0 with a trip to Russia to come leaves the tie wide open and if anything slightly in favour of the Russians..We do though have to get our act together on and off the pitch or this could all fall apart very quickly

He's quite noticeably moved from Q & Q (Quality over Quantity) to A & A (Affordability and availability).
Perhaps his shopping list was a bit unrealistic for our budget?
Either way, he seemed more upbeat.
He has shown an ability to adjust tactics, not recently granted as the possession over press tactic still prevails, so I'm hoping he can turn this around. With a couple of additions.

BRENDAN RODGERS wants to make up to FOUR new signings next week.

The Celtic boss targeted replacements for Patrick Roberts and Stuart Armstrong — plus quality additions — in late June.

Only Daniel Arzani and Emilio Izaguirre have arrived since and Rodgers wants more before Friday’s deadline.

Asked if he still needs three or four signings, he said: “Absolutely. There’s no change. I’ve been pretty clear since the end of last season on what we need.

“This year wasn’t a huge overhaul. It was about simplicity in one thing, which is quality.

“You need to replace what you lose in order to keep that strength and that competition.

“It’s no coincidence that James Forrest was very good with Patrick Roberts breathing down his neck. And vice-versa.

“The midfield players knew, if they weren’t quite doing it, they had someone who could come in, come on and do well.

“I think there’s work going on. It’s clear what we need. But we’ll see.

“I will obviously be involved on the periphery of it in terms of the player and his suitability.

“But it’s a collective thing, the way we work here. Let’s hope we can do something.”

Rodgers had three top targets this summer — with £9million Odsonne Edouard the only one he has so far landed.

Celtic have now turned to other options and the Parkhead boss says they would be cheaper than the Frenchman.

And he also insists Celtic don’t have to cash in on the likes of Moussa Dembele to fund any incoming players.

He said: “Two of the three targets I wanted are gone.

“It’s now about looking at the necessary quality to come in and help the group. But in terms of players being sold, no.

“I think that was the other key thing that the club have done very well, retaining the likes of Tom Rogic.

“The club don’t need to sell. We’ve been in a very good position, financially, over the past couple of years.

“If you had a few years without the Champions League, then of course that is maybe something the club would have to look at.”

Dedryck Boyata is unlikely to face Hamilton and Rodgers is in the dark over his future.

But he remains adamant the Belgian won’t be sold unless Celtic bring in a quality replacement.

He said: “You can’t give away an international centre half if there’s not one who is equal or better to come in.

“There will be cries of ‘Take the money — it’s the last year of his contract’.

“That is great but, if you don’t have one to come in, then it’s not a very good strategy.”

Jozo Simunovic is also set to miss the Accies clash with an ankle injury, while Jack Hendry will again sit it out.

Really disappointing if Schar, Piccini and Mcginn were his 3 main targets and he didn't get them.

Brendan Rodgers admits he’s missed out on his top transfer targets - but has demanded the Parkhead board delivers up to four new faces by the end of the week.

The Celtic boss has suffered a frustrating summer after failing to bolster his starting line-up following failed attempts to land John McGinn from Hibs and Scott McKenna from Aberdeen, having also lost out on targets such as Swiss ace Fabian Schar and Italian full back Cristiano Piccini.

Record Sport understands Celtic are considering reopening their pursuit of McKenna despite Rodgers insisting the deal was dead. It is believed the champions are ready to test Aberdeen’s resolve with an increased offer for their prized asset.

Rodgers stated on day one of pre-season he wanted three or four ‘quality’ additions - and he insisted nothing has changed two months on with the window closing in just six days.

The Parkhead boss has a major defensive headache ahead of Hamilton tomorrow with Kris Ajer his only available centre back.

Dedryck Boyata’s future is still unclear, Jozo Simunovic has been sent for a scan after limping off against Suduva, while Jack Hendry and forgotten man Marvin Compper are both ruled out injured.

Rodgers has huge concerns going into a crucial week - but he is hoping reinforcements are on the way.

He said: “Well, the targets I wanted are gone. Two of the three. The third one being Odsonne Edouard. He was one we wanted to make.

“But the two other ones are gone. So it’s now looking at the necessary quality to come in and help the group.”

When asked if he was still targeting three or four players, Rodgers said: “Absolutely. There’s no change. I’ve been pretty clear, since the end of last season, what we need.

“So this year wasn’t a huge overhaul. It was about simplicity in one thing, which is quality.

‘There is a lot of talk around all the transfers. But it’s always been very clear what we needed.

“You need to replace what you lose in order to keep that strength – and that competition.”

Boyata is a target for Turkish sides Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, with Sevilla also in the frame, while other key men have been linked with clubs in England and abroad.

Rodgers insisted Celtic won’t have to sell despite missing out on the Champions League money.

He said: “It was important for us this summer to retain the players we wanted to keep.

“We still have work to do in the transfer market to give the group some strength and depth.

“The club doesn’t need to sell. We’ve been in a very good position, financially, over the past couple of years and that probably eases the pressure of having to do that.”

Rodgers admitted wantaway defender Boyata’s fate is still in the balance after declaring himself out of the Suduva clash.

He said: “I’m not sure how it’s going to play out.

“The thing for us is twofold. You can’t let one go unless you’ve got a replacement.

“You can’t give away an international centre half if there’s not actually one who’s equal or better to come in.

“There will be cries of ‘take the money – it’s the last year of his contract – which is great but if you don’t have one to come in, then it’s not a very good strategy.”

But Rodgers is anxious not to get lumbered with a player who doesn’t want to be at Parkhead beyond the window closing.

He said: “You have to assess that. For any club and any supporter, commitment is everything. For any player, it’s an obligation, not a choice. You’ve got to be committed when you play.”

But when asked if he can count on Boyata’s commitment, he said: “I’ve got nothing to say on that. Dedryck made a choice of where he was at and he’s been clear with the club and myself.

“My focus is really on players that are ready and fit to play and to try to get them in the best condition we possibly can.”

Rodgers was critical of his side’s defending against Suduva and underlined his warning ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Hamilton at Celtic Park.

The Hoops have a Glasgow triple bill with Suduva and Rangers up in the next week and the manager said: “You can’t dress it up. I have always been open with the players and I haven’t said anything that I haven’t said to them first.

“It was poor and we need to get back to the drawing board.

“It is a great week for us. It was always in the calendar as a good way to finish what was a busy period for us.

“It is three home games now and it is a chance to get points in the league and get through into the group stage of what is still a very good competition and a good footballing experience for us and then we have a game against one of our major rivals at the end of it all.”
