Brendan Fraudgers!

Discussion in 'World Football' started by Mr. Slippyfist, May 20, 2016.

  1. Have I ever actually said that I adore this guy? He certainly knows how to pick a player and PL must be rubbing his hands with glee!

  2. His salary is around £25k I believe. For his business acumen, his network of contacts and clout in the financial world I can't think of a better spent £25k.

Rodgers has also attributed the massive part DD played in getting him here as manager, saying "Dermot was a big swaying factor.I met him in London along with Peter. And I could see the hunger and the passion in his eyes. He wasn't just talking through any old spiel to get me here. He has a real genuine passion and love for the club."

  3. Definitely Minty, listening to his "revolving door" comments after the Glasgow Derby, I said on here I expect a right few to go out the door namely Erik, Jozo, Moussa, Gamboa and Armstrong all on permanent deals out - on reflection that might be a bit extreme for a January window and too much upheaval but in this game you never know!

  4. The only one of those I'd really want to keep, is Dembele. I think we'd get a better price for him in the summer.

  5. Only way we get a better price for Dembele in the summer is if he comes off the break in red hot form.

This is the Window to gain maximum value for a striker from England with a dozen clubs panicking about relegation.

  6. This is the thing. Bottom 6 EPL will pay way over the odds in Jan if they think a quality striker will keep them in the division.

  7. I agree with what you are saying but also the @PaulM1888 & @charlietully have a valid point also in the way I think most of the bottom half of the EPL would come in and buy him.

  8. I think I'd still rather keep Dembele for as long as possible.

  9. Aye definitely but ultimately it will come down to Brendan and Peter to make the decision! It’s a catch 22!

  10. Another thing on Dembele- if he goes to a smaller (say bottom 6 PL) club then the chances of more money again from a sell on is great. That opportunity reduces the bigger the club he moves to.

  11. Do you think his form warrants a start just now though?

Personally I'd be going with Griffiths ahead of him at the moment and if he's sitting on the sidelines then his value is only going to go one way.

  12. Well, I thought he was more effective than Griffiths, in the derby game. I don't think either of them have played anywhere near their best in well over a month though.

  13. I think that's a wee bit harsh on Leigh tbh. He only started 2 games in December, the first being the game v Hearts when the whole team was a shambles albeit he did fluff a good early chance. The second was against Dundee when he scored a good goal and played reasonably well I thought. Moussa didn't have a single goal or assist in December.

  14. Oh, that’s me convinced then. Even though we are liable to pay him £4m in dividends.

  15. We only pay dividends when we're financially successful which goes hand in hand with being successful on the park. Had he not been there to be instrumental in the acquisition of Rodgers then we almost certainly would not be as successful on and off the field and ergo he would not have the option of such dividends. I understand it sounds falling to us but the club is being run on a sound financial footing and is dominating the football in this country, if I can't see how that's something to be upset about.

  16. Revisionism.

In 2009 when the Board refused to invest into the Park, we lost the League, the Board made a Public apology about it and they still got paid millions.

The Board are liable to pay dividends annually regardless of our profits.

So, basically, he’s incredible because he appointed a Celtic supporting Manager who was out of work on the predication of the Sevco Board winding him up?

  17. Of course they aren't infallible, there have been a few mistakes made and lack of investment at crucial points, bear in mind this was against a competitor who was aggressively evading tax therefore it wasn't a level playing field.

I never used the word 'incredible' but when Rodgers himself said that Desmond personally played a big part in swaying him to come to us then I'll take that at face value. After an unprecedented season were we won a treble without losing a single game domestically then yes I will applaud the appointment and be grateful that Desmond's input made it possible. Your tone comes across as sneering re Rodgers, yes he was out of work but he is still a well-respected manager and no doubt wasn't short on offers to get back into management.

More negatives than positives. I don't see any action from our Board doing anything about their aggressive tax evading.

On paper we are expected to win the Treble every single year and it would be a failure to do so as it is a given with our resources. Only good Managers can do it, like Rodgers, but to insinuate in any way that we have a Celtic supporting Manager and we should be greatful or its a masterstroke by the Board is nonsense.

Will see who DD replaces Rodgers with when it comes to it and I won't be holding my breath for him to match Rodgers quality.

  18. Nonsense and does a complete disservice to the hard work both at boardroom level and on the training ground that got us to the level of an unprecedented unbeaten treble. You clearly don’t like DD but if you can’t accept the fact that without his input we may not have got Rodgers and therefore not experienced the thrills of last season then you’re one of those fans that will never be happy.

Since Desmond initially invested £8 million in 1994 when Fergus came in we’ve went from 4th in the league and on the brink of liquidation, to becoming an absolute juggernaut in domestic terms, having the largest football stadium in the country and playing in a European final. To say there are more negatives than positives in his reign is ludicrous. We’re in the best position we’ve ever been in.

  19. I've been clear on here in the past that I appreciate him underwriting debt for equity and as such - characterizing me as im 'one of those fans' is nothing more than arrogance I don't buy into this whole dogma that it's remarkable we have Brendan Rodgers because Dermot Desmond got him. Nonsense, complete and utter nonsense. This is simply cultivated from previous Managerial appointments which hasn't reflected the size of Celtic, Deila for prime example, Lawwell throwing him under the bus with maneuvering his appointments in the Backroom Staff, recommending who should be signing (through his Son at Man City) etc.

It's became a modern academia because DD went out and got a Celtic Manager that is now reaching Celtic objective's both Domestically and European under the Financial constraints. whoopty * doo, because by the way, this is his fundamental job as a director to appoint the kind of Manager like Rodgers.

Give me a break that DD deserves the credit when we should have a Manager like Rodgers. * sake, I seen MON roll up Celtic Park and he got us to a European Final.

As I stated above about the underwriting I appreciate his contribution, along with Fergus and others. No, we were on the brink of Administration.

And tell me, since we have been in the best position we've ever been in..... How come we're not doing anything in Europe other than making up the fixtures? Never building on strength, never being ambitious? The reason is because it's business first and football second.
