Fortuné moved to West Bromwich Albion in the January 2009 transfer window, joining on loan for the remainder of the 2008–09 season. Albion had an exclusive option to buy the player at the end of the loan spell.<SUP class=reference id=cite_ref-0>[1]</SUP>
He made his debut for West Bromwich Albion in their 3-0 Premier League home win over Middlesbrough. He started the game and deflected team mate Robert Koren's shot into the net.<SUP class=reference id=cite_ref-1>[2]</SUP> The goal was originally credited as Koren's but replays showed that the ball deflected off Fortuné before crossing the line, BBC's Match of the Day awarded the goal to Fortuné, meaning a debut goal for the striker. The transfer fee is in the region of 3.5 million.
