    There really wasn't much competition for Caldwell.

    Bobo was up against Mjallby, Valjaeren. Thomson, Larsson, Sutton etc.etc

    The 6 above could beat our current side on their own !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    We were up against European finalists, say what you want about how * they are/were. They aren't as bad as they are/were made out.

    Miles off topic anyway this is old ground we're covering for the umpteenth time.

    the balde v celtic saga was not just between the 2 of them,,,lawyers.agents.joe the coalman and many more i bet were adviseing balde to sit it out to line there own pockets aswell,if balde has less wages the agents get less pay,

    plus theres so many avenues to go down on this one and no one came out of it well

    i bet celtic investigated baldes life looking for a way to terminate his contract,

    so both sides are to blame,you would have thought after rafiel * they might have learned a thing or 2 but seems sadly not

    Big BOBO was the best centre back Celtic have had since the days of the likes of Paul Elliot and Mick McCarthy imo..it would be interesting to compare the stats of goals against us in the seasons he was playing to those in the seasons under strachan when he wasnt in the team..The fans calling him a mercenary for not leaving because he was getting 30 grand a week (allegedly) when under contract are out of order imo why should he leave if he doesnt want too ?.personally i would offer him a new contract for next year and play him,heid and loovens in a 3-5-2 and let McManus go to birmingham instead as bobo's a million times better defender..:50:

    Again ill say ,Strachan didnt rate him for whatever reason ,i agree that he was the best defender there when Strachan came in ,but we can sit here all night discussion this and never get it sorted out ,Strachan is the only guy who can answer this .

    Feb 2008 Barcelloa Caldwell gives easy ball away to Ronandinho who give it to Henry and he continues to back off till Henry as a free pop at goal.

    That goes along with some of the owns goals he has to his name. As I said we will wait and see.

    Bobo played 45 games in Europe for Celtic with only two major errors that I can think of.

    Caldwell has has not been any better himself

    The own goal against Benfica was another howler and if I rake threw any archives i'm sure i'll find more.

    He probably favoured stability, consistency and reliability (McManus [consistently *]) over brute strength and brick-wall like defensive capabilities BUT with the incredible ability to try and pass a ball 4 feet and having the ball end up in a nearby carpark. (Balde)

    O'Neil never played McManus, Strachan never plays Balde. Different style of play.

    You are probably aware I was talking about the CONTENT of the team.

    Not players in one particular position.

    And yet again the 6 I mention could skelp the 11 we have playing just now.

    The Caldwell that plays for Celtic just now and the Caldwell that was a complete * up at the time of the Benfica game are COMPLETELY different footballers. I wanted him out the door after that as well, he turned it round and I can hold my hands up and admit I was wrong about him. Just the same way as Balde in his prime and the mercenary that hasn't played regular football in a number of years aren't comparable.

    Too many people see Balde as the cult hero of 'Bobo's gonnae get ye' fame. Those same people deal will slaughter Ionel Ganea for the tackle that all but ended John Kennedy's career in a friendly but will hail Balde for the same thing he did to 17 year old Wesolowski at Leicester in a pre-season game. Co-incidentally the same wee guy that was, and now again is, managed by Craig Levein after he brought him to United but will never be the same after 2 broken legs.

    i TOTALLY agree with u mate!,been saying the same for ages,mick is * and a shiter captain but when ginger says jump,he sez how high and bends over to recieve it. where deek,bobo and quinn wouldnt take his *,i know his family and have met him on many occasions along with rocco and both wanted to stay but where never gona get a game under strachan!,bobo is just hoping for a change of manager(SO AM I!) and impress who ever takes over
