I agree. Of course the Board has questions to answer, but for me the focus should be on BR here. We lost this tie because of our (lack of) defence - it's been needing overhauled for ages, and it's BR's job to sort out a balanced first team. He's failed to do that!

Folk are doing their nut because the Board didn't share BR's enthusiasm for John McGinn - personally, I can understand why they didn't. BR should have been going to them with suggestions for first team Defenders - not Midfielders to sit on our bench! And still, some fans say that Brendan should have got what he wanted (McGinn) and that it was a major slap in BR's face that he didn't get him. Bullshit! BR doesn't need any 'there-there' gifts from the Board - he simply hasn't done his job properly in this transfer market (or the last!).

But hey - it's easier for the working-class-hero to blame 'the man'. Burn Lawwell - he's not one of us... and clearly a witch!

Sorry Bhoys, but that's too convenient. BR is more culpable for the situation we find ourselves in. And as for the Boyata debacle!? * me Brendan!

Anyway, it's done now. Time to limit the damage and get ourselves to the next window at the top of the SPL and still in Europe.

    Hail Hail!

Don't blame Brendan here. First choice pairing of Botata/Ajer tonight and we'd still be in the tie right now.

By all accounts, Brendan had a CB and RB targeted earlier in the summer but the board couldn't secure the deals (Probably McGinn'd it).

That said, the first 2 goals of the tie we lost were criminal, really poor defensive errors. A world class defensive coach Brendan is not, but he can't account for that.

This is his 3rd European campaign with Celtic, after having previously 1 or 2 with Liverpool.

Talk about players learning? Rodgers clearly has learned sweet * all. And it's not as if we were even going into this game with an attacking mentality - if I didn't know any better I'd swear I was watching Ronny Deila's Celtic.

It certainly doesn't, but the board have their own thread to lay blame in.

    He's neglected the defence.

My concern when he arrived was could he set us up in Europe to get results when the chips were down. First two seasons in qualification he showed we could against average teams..But we got lucky too and then skelped in the group's

This season luck has ran out and we've been exposed again. Said in his interview there we can't dwgwnd like that...Well What has he done to prevent it? Nothing.

He has to take blame...but in the same instance he isn't the only one.

    Total deflection.

I'd want neither back, but "St. Brendan" doesn't deserve to escape any criticism that the former two got for their shortcomings.

I usually applaud most of what ever Rodgers says in his interviews, but this is pathetic.

We all know what has been needed changing, and so does he - but you're spot on, he has done * ALL about it.

It is Rodgers who has made a * of the defence. Coming into this window we needed a right-back and centre-back or even just two centre-backs if we were going to play 3 at the back. But we've made no moves for anyone, Rodgers also seems to have * up the Boyata situation, he seems to have been thinking he will stay when he doesnt want to which has gone on to * us again.

The worrying thing is he doesnt seem to mind Lustig who is the weakest player in the team. Lustig's needed replaced for 18 months at least and he's done nothing about it.

I'd be more willing to blame the manager were it not for the fact this club has, on several occasions over the past two decades, refused to strengthen from a position of dominance.

This is history repeating itself again... and again... and again.... and again.

There won't be 10-in-a-row btw. We'll be dragged back down to the level of the Klan. Happens every time.

Here's a reimagined version of your (imagined!) conversation -

    BR: I want John McGinn

PL: No! Go and find us some * defenders instead!

Reckless speculation can cut both ways!

Hendry and Compper haven’t been his first choice picks, they’ll have been way down the list but we went for them because they were cheap.
The McGinn saga was an absolute disgrace, there will have been other players we’ve tried to sign and cocked up but it hasn’t reached the press.
Rodgers definitely has to shoulder some of the blame but if you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

Think people have selective memory here in what BR has done the past 2 years. Yes their has been a failings on recruitment front, mainly on PL behalf but the ONLY reason we lost this tie was due to defending. Basic simple defending. Not being flat footed, no allowing the wide man to get a cross in, not allowing the ball to run across the face of a few defenders AND then let it bounce. Actually jumping and attacking the ball.

All these things over 3 goals. All from the right side of the pitch in to the centre. These are mistakes I would expect at * level. It would be * defending if Dundee lost the same goals.

The point is BR or the board cannot prevent these mistakes. Its the defenders themselves. Its the basics. Don't let the wide man cross, attack the ball, don't let it bounce, assume responsibilty. The stuff 12 yer olds know FFS!!!

We’re going to need a new Keeper, a new RB, at least 2 new CB’s never a Broony replacement.

Does anyone actually trust Rodgers at all to go out and sign players that are good enough?

Really hate to say it but this time next season us and the zombies could be even, especially if there's a fire sale to make up for the loss of CL money

If that is the case then it’s a very dangerous precedent. Lawwell should have no involvement in identifying players or areas of the squad to strengthen.

That would be a decent arguement if it wasn’t only just happening. It’s been happening ever since Rodgers came in.

In fact I would say our defence/defenders have regressed more and more since he came in.
