Is this seriously the level we are at? Going for a player that Doncaster Rovers are?

    You'd think we'd lost £50m+, not gained.

"Doncaster Rovers: Shay Given and Billy Sharp interest club

Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov has confirmed the club have made loan enquiries for Aston Villa's Shay Given and Southampton's Billy Sharp.
Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Given, 37, has fallen behind Brad Guzan in the pecking order at Villa Park.
And Sharp, who hit 41 goals in 86 games in a previous spell at Rovers, spent last term on loan at Nottingham Forest.
But Dickov told BBC Radio Sheffield they were still "waiting to hear back" from the clubs of both players."

I don't really understand why we would go in for him but let Johnny Russell slip through our grasp, just doesn't add up to me.

I'd rather have Austin over Sharp and definitely over Doyle, I know theres issues regarding his medical, but no-one really knows what. I do think the money they're asking for is a bit steep though.

The player I really want is Jordan Rhodes, but lets face it, thats never gonna happen. :54:

I'd take Sharp along with someone else maybe. He would score us more goals than Doyle and is more similar to Hooper. Not as good now but similar in some aspects.

Balde, Stokes, Watt, Sharp, *£3-4m striker

    would do me.

Defining a player on how much they cost is a bad idea. By that logic you would be happy with another Fortune type striker. Hooper cost under 3 million remember. Money doesn't guarantee quality :50:

Id definetly take Sharp for £1.5million actually but I wouldnt want him as our main striker signing. He'd get us 20+ goals a season if he was playing regularly similar to Stokes and S.McDonald and although he wouldnt be ideal for Europe, id rather have him up front in European qualifiers than Stokes or big Bobo as hes better at sniffing out goals.

He's also the kind of player we need when Sevco get to the Premiership, a guy we can rely on to score goals. Handy to have about the team.

74 goals in his last 136 games in the Championship, Premiership, FA Cup and League Cup is a great scoring record.

Yeah but you know what I mean, like Hosiner would cost around that, Rudnevs would have been around £4.5m, Omer Damari would be around 3million euros. I didn't mean that it would get us a guaranteed goalscorer I just think that is how much we are looking to spend on a player in that position.

Exactly the same as me. I think he is a good goalscorer, might not be a great allround footballer but he is a poacher and would be more than good enough for the SPL, 'scottish premiership' whatever the * it is called now.

Aye, I actually meant 63 goals there but pressed 74 :31:

He's a similar calibre of player to Stokes and McDonald whoa are really good SPL/Scottish Premiership players. We will always need players like that in the squad.

But when you lose someone the quality of Hooper then you need to try and bring in quality to replace him, Sharp wouldnt be that player but id still like him. Id have preffered Johnny Russell but that ship has sailed.

I'd rather have Sharp than Doyle anyway. I'd be pretty confident of him hitting 20 goals for us easy, with the chances we create. For around £1m it would not be a marquee signing but I reckon he could replace some/most of Hooper's goals in the SPL at least.

Before Hooper came along we hadn't had an out and out 'poacher' for a while (I know he is more than just a poacher but you know what I mean). Now he is gone I think Sharp would fill the void for a wee while anyway.

It would then allow us to bring in a player with a bit more quality and potential to act as our main forward. Someone who could do a bit more damage in Europe although who knows how Sharp would fair in Europe either, could probably sniff out a couple goals against poorer opposition.

Bring him home, id definetly sign this *. If we actually had him just now id be confident of him scoring against this mob in the CL qualifier yet without him even against a mob that bad I wonder where the goals will come from. He would guarentee 20 odd goals a season same as Stokes although I would rather have him playing up front alone than Stokes in games like the Elfsborg etc As long as we sign a quality striker for the Champions League too. Sharp, Stokes, Bobo and Watt would be good back-up to a new main striker.

That ''Mob'' beat BATE Borisov home and away. They obviously have something about them. Let's not write them off because they're from Kazakhstan.
