Hooper only has a low sell on value due to term of contract. With 3/4 years to go we could command £8-£10m anyway

I'm convinced he'd do a job for us, has always been pretty good where ever he's gone.

Would be a decent replacement for Hooper, I'd like to see us go for other option before him though, i reckon they could be out their at cheaper prices too.

Matthews, Wilson, Ledley, Hooper, Forster. There are some great bargains to be had in the English leagues and I think we should not overlook that. I would agree that there are some ridiculous valuations of some average players down there though.

If we can get someone on the cheap that can score reliably in the SPL I think I'd be happy with that. Spend the rest of the money on someone younger and unproven with more potential.

Aye, it's always worth keeping an eye on but how many players are going to be able to make the step up like Hooper did? And if they do we only see a couple of million profit.

Normally I would be all for it, I think the league is reasonably similar in quality and style, it just doesn't fit in that well with our current transfer policy.

You still here? This brilliant Lovren that you speak of played less games in all competitions for Lyon last season than Hooiveld did EPL games for you.

As for Billy Sharp, 5 years ago when he was a prospect and we were interested I would have took him. At 27 years old and yet to score over 15 goals in a Championship season, I think he's past improving.

Id rather have Sharp for £1.5million than Austin for £4million.

I'm actually quite surprised with all the love for Billy Sharp. Have any of you seen him? I have, about 18 months ago just after Southampton signed him. It speaks volumes that he was sent out on loan as soon as they got into the Premier League.

He scored a goal right in front of me but I'm pretty sure I could have put it away. He didn't do too much else, can we afford the luxury of someone who isn't very mobile and doesn't do too much else except for hang around up the pitch?

Definitely wouldn't be a replacement for Hooper who has far more to his game than that. I predict forum meltdown (from frustration) if and when he plays for us!

If we sign him I would love to be proved wrong.

Now Ricky Lambert - he's the man that made it all happen.

We need a goalscorer, he have scored 1 in 3 in the EPL, so he have not really got the chance there yet. 141 goals in 310 games, he knows where the net is.

The EPL is the place to look after players these days. The newly promoted EPL clubs are booting out the boys who have been helping them reach the Premier because they want to buy names like Damiao. This lad could be a EPL standard striker, who knows?

I trust our scout team more then i trust the scouts of the lower teams in the EPL.

No-one in there right mind is going to pay 4 million for a guy who failed a medical.....

He will A. run his contract down or B take the offer Burnley has offered him or C they take a knock down price for him.

Celtic have highlighted Billy Sharp, Charlie Austin and Kevin Doyle as replacements for Gary Hooper.

John Hartson never had a year left on his contract.

Extremely underwhelming if this is truly the case, although I'm hoping for it to just be a media made list!

We could and should be doing alot better than any of they 3 to replace Hooper.
