I had to have a look, just to get it in my head. Your club originates from 127 years ago. What have you won (of note) in that time? The FA cup in 1976. You're the definition of a diddy team - get that in your head.

As I said on another thread, a 'wee' family oriented club - and that's nice but you're never going to be mentioned in the same sentence as 'great'.

I don't know anybody down here who claims to support Southampton. United, Liverpool and one of several London clubs. But not Southampton, enjoy your Sky money and foreign investment while it lasts.

BTW Billy Sharp is a wee, slow fat barrel of a football player - no thanks!

I'd take sharp. He's better than stokes IMO

Well that's what I though, but apparently he just said that so he didn't have to speak the media when everybody was outraged that Adkins had been sacked.

Can speak English, but he's a shitebag :smiley-laughing002:

But they did get to 11 fa cup/league cup semi finals in there history :56::56::56:

They've got wanyama but yet he's still here throwing digs about on a Celtic forum, very strange...

    * city,* club who now like any who reach the riches of the prem have gotten on there high horses...
You for however much money you have and league you play in will always be a non entity and on the outside looking in the window at all the big boys wishing you could play with them!

You are on a par with Sheffield united/bolton status wise

The fact that Ted Bates used that is a barometer of success says it all really. Small team mentality.

Decent striking option but not as a replacement for Hooper for me.

Please, do stay around. It will be * hilarious when Southampton are bankrupt and in League 1 in a few years time.

I know that much about football :86:

The reference i made was that if people wanted a strike that level is only going to be scoring in the spl,and they don't believe he can make any form of input in Europe then it would be like signing leigh griffiths.

    That's not hard to understand.

Hooper will leave and stokes will sign a contract extension. I think most people or in agreement with that.

    1-
    2- stokes
    3- balde
    4- watt/Doyle
    5- samaras

That main striker must be at a level we believe can cope in champions league because that's were we need to be.

    Agreed

Do you think that charlie Austin could do a job in the CL ?? I havent seen him play so geniunly couldnt give an opinion on him though he seems to be rated. Ive no problems with getting a league 1 or championship level striker with a good return, hoops proved that level can make the step up.

His goalscoring record looks pretty good. Id still be pretty disappointed if we sold Hooper and he was the only other striker we signed this window.

Austin has failed a medical due to a knee injury.

Too risky given prices quoted IMO.

Hartson or Prodan. That's the risk

    Nonsense :bbpd:

Austin is a more improving player than billy sharp. But i wouldn't have either as my main striker.

Austin is a good player, but his injury issues are a massive concern though unfortunately.

I don't think the Championship is the best market for us. Players are still too expensive. Look at Hooper, a great piece of business at £2.5m, but then his sell on value? At it's highest it was maybe £7m, with Scunthorpe getting 20% of that so £5.6m in all. That's only a profit of £3.1m.

With a year left we'll probably sell for £5m, which would only really be a profit of £1.5m. * all for a guy who's scored regularly for 3 years, played and scored in the CL and been on the verge of an England call-up.

Basically there seems to be little "mark-up" value in spending decent money in the Championship.

Said this myself and got slated. I think the English leagues should be overlooked for the majority of our transfers. They are over-priced and over-hyped.

His tally isn't so bad, 128 goals in 291 games. Doesn't really seem to get injured.

I'm kinda thinking loan deal, with the option to sign. Wonder if they'd go for that.
