Slaven Bilic, the Croatia coach, was last night ruled out of the running for the Celtic job, writes David Friel.
Bilic publicly declared his interest in the post last summer before Celtic opted for Tony Mowbray and is regarded as one of the best young managers in Europe. But Domagoj Bilic, his brother and agent, says the 41-year-old has already pledged his long-term future to Croatia.
“Maybe in the future things will be different with Celtic, but Slaven will not leave Croatia just now,” he said. “We are preparing for the Euro 2012 qualifying games and Slaven is focusing on that.
“We have heard Celtic are looking for a manager, but he is not interested at the moment. Celtic are a wonderful, famous European club and I would not rule out something happening in a few years but he has a job with Croatia and is committed.
“West Ham have shown an interest, but Slaven wouldn’t even leave the national team for his old club. He is happy at the moment.”

TBH he's a bit overrated purely because he beat England at Wembley. He failed to get Croatia into the playoffs of the World Cup, can't be that good a manager.

Don't want him anyway.

Not bothered tbh.

Very decent manager, bit of a character.
Still, he says no and we move on. -

I still wouldn't rule him out things can change by summer, maybe the board makes a good offer, I think he would be a great manger and I couldnt believe that last summer some idiots wanted mowbray over him

He's seen as a bit of a messiah in Croatia and has publicly vowed to be successful in the next campaign with his team. I feel that he is probably over-rated as a manager due to his lack of club experience, which is unfair to some level. But from what I have seen, he knows how to put a team out to win and play football. -

Quite glad , dont really rate him, no experiance in club football, just look at guys like Marco van Basten, good with Holland terrible with a club side.
Think even Berti Voghts could get results with Croatia and Holland.
If he was as good as people think he is why has a big European team not made a move??? Finished third in there world cup group. -

Why did we choose Mowbray over him in the summer?
No disrespect to mogga but wouldn't it have made more sense to sign Bilic. -

It has the same ring to it as Mark McGhee turning it down. Couldnt care less and I am glad he has taken himself out of the running

Don't want him anyway. Overrated and has very little experience of managing at club level. There are better options. :50:

I'm not that bothered as I don't get the Bilic love in, a good international manager does not always make a good club manager, yes he has a lot of character but that would be worthless if he's rubbish in transfer dealings or dealing with players on a daily basis etc so would be just as risky as any inexperienced manager.
As for this quote from the article:
-
Glad about that, no experience at club level, would have been a gamble imo.
-
Pritty gutted about this tbh, reckon he could have done a good job for us
-
What makes me comfortable with Lennon at the moment is that he knows the spl inside out, and thats our bread and butter. Not that im saying he should stay on past the summer, but im not entirely closed to the idea. -
-
wouldn't have been in my top 3 choices anyway.would prefer hughes or lennon if he does well.or even lambert
