St Vincent's is a nightmare to get served and they run out of beer. It's mental. However, they've good bands on. Malones is a rich man's version of St Vincent's - better range of beer, better bands and better clientele altogether.

What's the general opinion of Maggie Mays on here? A little bit more than the average pint but there's something about the place that i really like.

MacConnells in Hope street used to be an excellent Celtic Boozer up until about 8 years ago then some consortium bought if off the guy and took all the celtic stuff down then tried to turn it into a sports bar, just got done up there after new year and looks a lot better, the CSC still runs from it but for me it has now lost its identity as a Celtic Pub.

    I like it.

Not bad for a few drinks before going elsewhere. Sometimes some decent music on during the week too.

I know what you mean about it, I think the set up is good. 'Roomy'.

Was in Glasgow city centre couple Saturdays ago and everywhere was * packing this was around 6pm or so. We decided to walk into Woodlands and went to the old schoolhouse then coopers. Places like they two pubs, oran mor and hillhead book club always seem to have a good ratio of females. Seems many times in town places like Maggie Mays etc are a sausage fest or couples etc.

I know people say west end can be full of hipsters etc, but sometimes refreshing to go somewhere you aren't getting growled at by tanned up spice boys, and * acting the big man.

I get what you mean man.

Although i'm gonna totally turn this on it's head. I was in the Three Judges a few weeks back - finished college early, jumped on the subway and went in there for a few beers. Was great. Even if i was the youngest guy in there by about 25 years at least!

Went into Clydebuilt after the gig on Tuesday. Epic bar. Prices are pretty standard for somewhere like that.

I like Maggie May's too, any time i seem to go though, it's always packed.
Boteco next door can be good if there's entertainment.
Being a fan of old blues music, Howlin' Wolf is one of my favourites.
Box can be hit or miss, but Firewater is always reliable.

Boteco is good, they do £2.50 pints of Brahma on certain nights which is always handy.

As a student who likes that kind of music, firewater is my favourite haunt as well. 89p drinks during the week you just cant argue with.:56:

Any decent pubs up and around SECC/Hydro? I know of Clydebuilt but * paying £5 for a pint. Going to see Ricky Gervais on Tuesday at the Armadilo and staying at the Campanile so can't really be arsed trekking in to town.

There are a few in Finnieston if you go over the bridge across the motorway. I don't know the area that well though

Heineken at £4.90 a go though! Worth it!
