Very subjective obviously, similar to great drummers I suspect. But I think about legendary guitarists sharing their impressions (particularly the initial ones when first hearing/seeing him live) of Hendrix - it's hard to imagine better, there is a palpable awe/reverence

Anything by gary moore * bless him.im 60 played lead guitar for over 40 years.seen and heard them all.the classic the shredder the genius but none of them come near gary moore. Right solos anything from his colleseum 2 days. Black rose from thin lizzy obviously. Live versions of the loner stockholm and live version of parissiene walkways. Live still hot yhe bies too. But to introduce someone to this man it has to be his live version of hendrixs' red house at the fender 40th aniversary gig.youtube it. Phenonenal.he is the guitarists guitarist.

A wee bit surprised nobody has mentioned Time by Pink Floyd, maybe it’s just for personal reasons but I must say the solo in that moves me a lot more than any others I’ve heard.

Agreed 100%. One of many phenomenal solo's by Dave, but there's something special about this one. A thing of sheer beauty

Try to emulate this most weekends and fail miserably!

The focus on the drummer in the recording is *, but * me that mans hands!

This is not the best guitar solo ever - but it's very long (oooer).

Great Australian rock song. It might even be one of the longest solo's I've heard.

Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash's guitar solo on the track Throw Down the Sword from the Argus album is excellent.

Don’t know if it’s been said, but Carlos Santana is right up there.

Can’t stand guitar solos, they’re usually too long, over indulgent and detract from the song

Yeah guitarist comparisons are useless. But imo the best guitarist in almost any genre of music who is untouchable is the late great Gary Moore. I'm 60 seen them all played lead guitar for 48 years starting with quo riffs.been in numerous bands.etc.other guitarist are faster than Moore but you could but Gary Moore into any band and you'd think he'd been with them for years.thats how good he was .HH
