Nygren displayed a man-of-the-match performance against Jimmy Thelin's side. Opening his account in the first half, before assisting Hatate for the second, the former Norsjaelland forward shone at Pittodrie.

"He's a player that can play in the eight, he can play as a 10, or he can play on the side," said Rodgers, when asked about Nygren. "But in how we play, I've seen him very much as an eight, someone who can move the ball quickly, get turned in tight spaces, and then do what he's done.

"He gets in the box and he can get goals. It was a really good finish, but if you watch his movement from the first, you know, the first entry into the final third, he's outside and then he comes in and then he's done what we've asked him to do, which is get in the box as an eight to to score goals and create goals.

"So he can do that for us, and I will expect him to get many more goals."

Benjamin Nygren scored his first goal in Celtic colours, firing home from a Kieran Tierney to give the Hoops a 1-0 lead at Pittodrie.

And the Swedish internationalist turned provider in the second-half, slotting the ball in for Reo Hatate to produce a stunning finish to set the seal on an impressive Celtic performance.

Nygren picked up the Man of the Match award after the game, and the 24-year-old midfielder was delighted to play his part in the victory as he explained to Celtic TV.

“It was a very good game and a solid performance from everyone,” he said. “I think especially the players at the back had an amazing game.

“Aberdeen couldn’t get through us and I thought, in general, that it was a very good performance. We had good control, a perfect win and a clean sheet.

“That’s how I want to play. I can run a lot so I want to be involved as much as possible and help the team to win, so I’m very pleased with my performance and the team’s performance today.

“It was amazing (his goal) – a perfect cross from Kieran and a solid finish, and I ran over to celebrate with the fans and the team.

“I’ve said it many times but, for me, football is nothing without the fans. Celtic is such a big club with lovely fans so they’re a part of the team and part of the club, so I’m so happy to celebrate with everyone.

Thought he loooked good today. Midfield 3 worked well - we probably rotate in the league cup but I can see Rodgers sticking with it for the big games.

He's good looking enough to get away with it and rich enough to sort it.

If you're gonna bald, bald the Nygren way.

I like him, especially because he's removes some of the creative burden from Hatate.

    No worries about him.

If only we can just get another 3 or 4 in around his level. He's defo not a £1.7m player. Good bit of work there admittedly.

He will only get better. He is very comfortable on the ball and you can see he has good technique. Brilliant for him to get off the mark today.

To be fair, the only reason we got him so cheap is due to 6 months left on his deal. I think he would have easily been £6M-£9M value if his contract wasn't an issue.
