Benjamin Nygren has revealed the "proudest moment" of his career so far, which left his family members in tears earlier this year.

The versatile midfielder joined Celtic last month from Danish Superliga side FC Nordsjaelland, penning a five-year deal with the Scottish champions for £1.7 million.

While enjoying a standout season last campaign for Nordsjaelland, Sweden national team manager Jon Dahl Tomasson awarded Nygren with his first senior international call-up, making his debut against Luxembourg.

"For me, it is my proudest moment so far in my career," Nygren said [Celtic TV]. I think it is special for everyone when you play for your country and hear your national anthem.

"I saw my family there and watched them - my sister was crying. It was difficult to watch them because it was such an emotional moment, but it was amazing, and I am so glad for it.

"I am starting to feel it (emotional) again. It is a very emotional thing, because it is something that you work hard for every day. For anybody who is not really into football, they don't know the work behind the scenes.

"Every day, you work, and you have to be disciplined, like by going to bed on time - it is your whole life, as well as a lifestyle.

"To achieve this dream is so difficult to describe, but it was amazing."

Nygren did not take long to catch the eye of the Celtic supporters, as he immediately impressed on his debut for the club last Saturday against Estrela da Amadora.

Not long after coming on, he assisted Adam Idah for the equalising goal, crossing the ball into the Irish striker's path, who made no mistake from a couple of yards out.

The game finished 3-2 to Celtic's Portuguese opponents.

Hes been ok, got a good feeling on him. Do think a couple of balls in box shoulda been better and his shot was a bit weak, but looks like he might get in and around box a bit.

    An excellent player..

Has a bit of everything. Wee things I love is how he buys freekicks and draws people in. Clever..

Think it's an absolute stick on that he'll be the moat fouled player in the league this year.

He's so clever at buying fouls.

We regularly come up against players like that in Europe but it's something we've lacked

Honestly another 5 or 6 like him and we are laughing. He's the level we need.

    You can see it.

Instant hit. Keeping the ball under pressure, drawing fouls, getting up the park through the middle and out wide. Goanny be a fantastic signing, already ahead of Engels in the queue.

Helped us play through the high press really well, which was an issue at times last season. Takes the ball on the turn brilliantly, great physicality about him too I didn’t think he would be as quick or as strong as what he is…

Don’t want to get too carried away too quickly but I’ve not been that impressed by a player on first impression since VVD :56:

    Rogic 2.0
Loved how he could rotate from central to out right similar to how tom did under Brendan

We’ve missed a player that can buy fouls out of nothing since Giakoumakis left.

I genuinely believe him and Starfelt won us the league that day at Ibrox in 2022 when Ramsey scored early and we won 2-1.

The level of intuition and ball protection he showed that day was so key, this guy looks the same albeit in a different area of the park.

Looked a really good player one thing I noticed he is always at the ref when fouled or fouling something we as a team don't do enough off

He's much more mobile than Rogic though and has a bit of aggression about him too.

Our midfield looked much better balanced as a 3 with him in it..
