If I'm being totally honest, that was the result I expected. When you look at their squad, with Vidal, Rafinha and Rodriguez on the bench, with their manager coming in and boosting the whole club by the looks of it, we were always up against it. Added to the fact we were away and also missing jozo...3-0 isn't the end of the world. I felt our set up, as a few have said, was maybe not ideal. Rogic is ideal when we are boxed in so much as he gives us that link, as is Dembele up top with a bit more physicality about him. I thought Ncham and Armstrong were pretty poor and the game passed them by but a few tweaks with jozo, rogic, dembele and maybe mcgregor for Armstrong, and I think we can take something against them at home.

We gave a poor account of ourselves which was disappointing. Bayern didn't have to work hard to beat us which was the biggest disappointment.

I dont think it is a case of players bottling it at this level, rather they just arent nearly as composed getting pressed by elite players. In scotland we have the freedom of the park to pass out from the back and go side to side as much as we like. Last night and against PSG every time we pass out there is at least one, often two or three, strikers pressing us and forcing the clearance.

I dont take any offence at losing 3 0 to a team like Bayern but I do think we will keep getting pumped unless we try to change our shape and tactics. We are never going to outpass or outdribble the elite teams and where we have had success before against the very best is by not trying to do that. It may mean direct or long ball or something else, but the whole ball playing 'philosophy' doesnt work against much better sides. We may well still lose but it would at least give ourselves a chance.

That said the amount of money in the game now has made it almost impossible for smaller nation teams to realistically challenge the elite in europe.

Disagree regarding them not having to work hard, I thought their work rate was our biggest problem because we couldn't find an inch of space in midfield.

By the way, how good is Robben to watch? Didn't enjoy him so much last night, but he's just incredible.

Did people honestly expect us to win? Or get a draw? Really. The greatest club in Germany, who in turn themselves happen to be one of the greatest international teams in world football scored three goals in 90 minutes against us. However hard it is to accept, that is a reflection of Germany’s & Scotland’s leagues at this level.
Celtic nearly always punch above their weight in Europe, but sometimes the task is just too great.
Brendan talks about incremental improvement, year on year & that is all we can ask for I think. The UEFA super elite club cartel will dominate for years to come. Money & finance is the biggest factor in success in Europe & our board will not commit financial suicide to chase a pipe dream. & rightly so.
In the meantime (& thanks to CL money) at home, let’s continue to grind the bones of that husk of a club from down the road into the ground & then see how BR develops us in Europe. A EL final would not be impossible.

    Agree bud.
Was obvious from within five minutes we needed rogic on. Armstrong was wasted, as we all know, playing that position. But I see what brendan was trying to go for. Armstrong should have the legs, and playing 3 in the central midfield, (rather than 2 and 1 further up) should boost the strength there. But bayern are that much better (same as psg and Barcelona) that, unless we had * iniesta in there, we would always get over run.
So for me, the option should have been rogic to provide and out ball and a link up for the times we did find some sort of break.

Always gonna be beaten last night, let's not pretend otherwise. Getting a goal and having kept it to a narrower defeat would have just put a smile on the face, but still beaten.

Last year was all about getting in to champions league. This year was about proving we can be better than rubber ducks. And we are proving that with anderlecht.

For me, it's getting 3rd place. And next year is a case of same again, with a look at being able to force the game on to a psg, and hold ourselves better. With again 3rd place next year and a run after Christmas.

Hard one to call,on the one hand we would like to see Rodgers adapt to each team (when we play psg etc maybe be a bit more defensive)rather than playing attack football against all teams.
But on the other hand we sometimes want the team to go down fighting.

As i said i think its a tough call when we play the bigger teams but having listened to the managers quotes i think he would rather to have ago than sit back.

To a section of our support albeit a small one any defeat must be because our team is pish or the referee has an agenda against us, luckily the vast majority can sometimes see that the other 11 men we are playing were trying to win the game as well and on a few occasions were better than us on the day.

Some of the words of wisdom on Griffiths and Gordon who have been pivotal to what we have achieved in the last 12 months are nothing short of the mutterings of a drunk

Didn't have to work hard for their goals is what I mean, their high intensity work rate is a given considering their quality..

It's frustrating because in large parts this time round the team were more solid and more well rounded in their performance when compared with the PSG game.

Just goes to show whilst over infinite games we will never have the better of teams at Bayern's level, but with the right additions this would have been a game we could of scraped a point out off as a shock one off result.

The sooner the likes of Ajer, Kouassi, Ralston, and ntcham start fullfilling their potential the better.

Gives me hope that we can pull off a Barca again soon despite the recent losses to PSG and Bayern.

The CL as a competition is finished, what was once the greatest cup competition in the world has now become a "who has the biggest *" competition between whatever billionaire sheikh or TV executive that has the deepest pockets.
UEFA have ruined the greatest competition in football just so they can feed there faces in the restaurants of Monaco and go home with a back pocket full of brown envelopes.

Glad to get that of my chest. :93:

Said to my mate that he has to go down as one of the best wingers of all time. He’s been at the top for * ages and he’s as good at 35 as he was at 25!

Despite losing a game I never really expected us to get a result from I think that we got the tactics badly wrong and I believe we could have made the game more of a contest. I am in agreement with the starting XI however as Griffiths is in form and Demebele has hardly played or scored this season. Also i think Armstrong offers more running and energy than Rogic.

Rodgers style is clearly to play the ball out from the back from the keeper, forward.
He lived and died by the philosophy at Liverpool and there is a stated case where Martin Skrtl lost the ball deep in his own half and conceded a vital goal to give away a vital result.

I feel this is relevant because we just shouldn't play this way in an away champions tie to such formidible oponents. We lost the ball countless hours times deep in our own half. Its tactical naivety.
Yes in the SPL, no away in europe.
