2 and a half years ago. i never really had high hopes for Fortune. i never really rated him before his holiday in the hoops but gave him the benefit of the doubt when he joined. although he flopped, Baba has shown that he can score in a better league.

i really hope he joins us. if we splash the sort of money being banded about i hope there isn't too much pressure to hit the ground running and he finds the net.

If we forked out £4m for this guy I'd be more than pleased. Think he'd be the key to getting to the CL group stages if we win the league this season which would easily pay that fee back off.

That's not what it says. It says "if" we were willing to pay an asking price of around 4M.

It's pure speculation - and in fact a much more honest article would read - "Celtic now look highly unlikely to sign Diawara, as a 3M offer for the player has already been rejected".

Which sounds fine to me tbh. I mean who have been our big money signings of recent years? Fortuné, Gravesen and Scott * Brown? Nearly all our best signings seem to be bargain buys, like Henrik, Lubo, Izzy etc.

A bidding war for a 23-year-old with only one international cap seems foolhardy to me.

Never happen, unless we sell some serious players, which won't happen.

Sammy has hit form, while Commons has disappeared - so no sale for Sammy.
Bangura is pish, Rasmussen is pish - no sale, especially not for anywhere near what we stupidly paid.
Hooper is our main striker & although the figures rumoured to be banding about will give a healthy profit (which Pistol Pete likes :50:), it would be silly to sell him in Jan - maybe in the summer if the profit is good enough.
    Stokes doesn't interest anyone imo.

    Never happen...imo.

as you say, 'if'. i forgot to put that at the beginning of my post. i got too excited.

pure speculation - even regarding the bid from Monaco.

to be fair, we only know whats reported.

Clubs dont always go public with their transfer targets - didnt it just come out one day that danny fox was joining burnley? pretty sure there was no mention about it anywhere and then the next day he was gone. I would say its more a matter of teams not meeting the minimal asking price of a player. everyone has their price, and we always seem to make a loss :(

In my opinion, Baba is one of the best strikers in the Portuguese League. He's the typical african striker: notable ability and mobility, fast with and without the ball, physically strong, good holding the ball waiting for his teammates but he's not a clinical finisher but he improved a lot this season (the statistics prove it). However, sometimes he has some troubles in the decision of the plays. But he's still a young player and I think he can (and will) improve some aspects of his game.

I read something about "if he's so good, why aren't the big 3 from Portugal interested in him?". I can tell you why. Here, the big 3 aren't used to pay a lot for a player in our own league. Of course this happens once in a while, but it's not common. Clubs like Marítimo try to make the most money they can for these players, that appear in their clubs once in a while. And this is how these players end up overvalued (in his asking price). Other reason, the big 3 are well served in that position (in the case of my club, we have van Wolfswinkel, Bojinov, Carrillo, Rubio... also, we spent a lot of money this Summer and now we don't have much more to spend :icon_mrgreen:).

Overall, Baba would be a good signing for you. As a matter of fact, I would like to see him in my club, but that's not an option at the moment.

Good to hear a fans view from Portugal itself.

Bravo here we have been hearing valuations of around £3-4 Million. Is that the same figure being mentioned in the Portugese press? Or was a figure agreed with Celtic before and that value ( £2.5 Million we are led to believe) still hold?
