I suspect Ferguson would want us to sign him because he’s *. Just heard him on real radio the other night.

How many of you have actually watched the guy?

He was highly rated before last season. I really don’t mind the look of this one.

£5m for a player who was * poor in the EPL is mad. Yes he could turn out good, but that's not a given and from what I have seen of him he's not the answer. If it was a loan with an option to buy at £5m fair enough, but an outright purchase of him at that seems daft to me.

Still, here's hoping if we do get him he is CCV mark II and makes me eat my words.

Sheffield United have rejected an opening bid of £5million from Celtic for defender Auston Trusty, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (27 August) that the Hoops have submitted their first bid for the United States international.

The Glasgow giants are keen to bolster their ranks with the arrival of Trusty as they work on multiple late-window arrivals ahead of Friday’s (30 August) deadline.

Celtic have banked a record fee from the sale of Matt O’Riley to Brighton and have made the centre-back a priority target.

Sources say Sheffield United are reluctant to part with Trusty before the window slams shut and the Hoops will now need to submit an improved offer to land him.

He was benched for the Blades’ first two Championship games this season but returned to the side and played 90 minutes in the draw against Norwich on Saturday (24 August).

The defender was a second-half substitute in the League Cup loss against Barnsley on Tuesday (27 August).

Trusty made 34 appearances for Sheffield United last season as they were relegated from the Premier League, with 30 of those outings coming as part of the starting lineup.

The ex-Arsenal and Birmingham ace is under contract at Bramall Lane until June 2027.

Wouldn't be going any higher than £5m to be honest.

Leave this alone Celtic. Ridiculous if we go any higher, but hey we're desperate (see Idah).

These comments make you want to run a mile.

Wonder where we go from here. Be asking about EPL teams for any rejects now no doubt. Duffy or that dumpling from Liverpool type.

Football insider claiming Trusty bid rejected. Same place who had us asking Norwich for idah on loan only for him to sign 2 days later and rangers paying £14m Sima!!!

We need a CB regardless so really need to make a decision as to where to go

Leaving it until the last week to start bidding on a cm and cb that we want is brutal. Definitely shows we were waiting for the O’Riley money to come in before spending which shouldn’t have been the case. With the initial bids being rejected were then going to panic and overpay or panic and get someone who wasn’t the managers choice. Need to act quick though definitely need a cb in and I’d be disappointed to miss out on Engels aswell especially since he’s keen on the move and has apparently agreed terms

He was great to watch I thought Efe as well, probably the best dribbler ever to play in defence for us, only real competition would probably be Frimpong and Van Dijk, maybe Denayer but Efe's touch and control were class.

If he came through a decent clubs youth system since he was 12 or that he'd probably have been a really good midfielder as he was naturally skilled on a ball.

    * farcical that it’s taken this long to bid for a centre back. And one who doesn’t even look particularly good.

We’ve known for about 10 months that a CB would be needed.

    Typical of our shambolic setup.

We've known all Summer O'Riley was going. The club has basically been preparing for it since January and there was even interest in him last Summer as well.

Most clubs in that situation will have their targets lined up and ready before they sell him. Many others would have bought the replacement players in already. When Levy knew he was selling Bale, he got the guys in beforehand because he knew he'd have to pay a premium otherwise.

We've constantly heard that we're waiting for quality. The only person who I can see that applies to is Engels and maybe Valle, and the latter is a 12 month loan.

Now we're bidding ridiculous sums of money for a bang average CB who looks no better than what we currently have. So I'll say it again, is this the quality we've been waiting for?

We shouldn't be returning with an improved bid for Trusty, but knowing us we'll fork out more because there's no doubt we don't have anyone else in the pipeline. Clubs know we have money and are desperate - so our master plan of waiting it out is failing spectacularly. All this for guys who on the surface don't even look to be worth it.

It should also be remembered that most of these deals could have been done (from a financial perspective) before any big player sales. We didn't need the O'Riley cash to start signing players.

It's an absolutely ridiculous situation to be in yet again.
