I too am a Celtic supporter- having had my season book since the age of 8. But , the fact and mere reality of football is that for Celtic to progress in the CL- they must sell their good players high and try to bring in others to do the same- and maintain this cycle. Otherwise we might do well for 3/4 years but after that we might be in the position MON left us in when we needed a whole team stripped down and built again!

If we are to constantly keep our best players then we would be operating at a constant loss, which would just spiral leaving us in the postion we came to in the early 90s!

Yes but why then can you tell me do Celtic sell our big players and then buy utter * from the championship or Spl just so that the board are once again making a profit ?. We dont invest the money spent into looking for better players :38::47:

So in effect we become a selling club then?

Jeannie Yes I think we are a selling club, thats not a lack of ambition just a grasp of reality!
PSV, Ajax, Feynoord, Sporting, Porto and even to a lesser extent Lyon are all in the same boat. The know that when they find a star a big club is going to come and take him. Money talks and that is the reality of the leagues we find ourselves in.
The knack is investing the money wisely and trying to discover the next star

We do lack ambition really though :31: specially in the transfer market and when it comes to Europe we constantly say we got a really hard draw, why not buy quality players then go do some damage in the last 16 :38:

im not sure its a lack of ambition, just dont think were ready to go down the road that the huns did in the 90's and still got no where.

Also the clubs I named as what I believed to be other selling clubs, PSV, Ajax, etc have sold their stars consitantly for years and all of them have still managed to make an impact on European competition. Ajax won it in the 90's, Porto 2004, PSV got to semis twice in recent years and Lyon are normally in the latter rounds. Just think its a case as Ive said already of getting these boys in young before their established and the odd experienced pro. Not massive transfers of estabished stars, with huge wage demands
I mean weve done it with Boruc, McGeady will be a big star and I believe so will Broony. not a huge transfer outlay there.

Yes but these clubs have foreign youngsters e.g. Spanish, French, Dutch.....all of which are much better than Scottish talents so we need to spend money on really good players :31:

You do make a good point, its just a personal thing, i just dont like being a feeder club, i know as long as we are in the spl we will never be able to keep all of our good player. We need to survive.

Look at how well Ajax did in the early 90s if that isnt something to base yourself on then i dont know what is. They taught their youth, bought youth on the cheap and cleared up! Then they were sold on, and they tried to start again! Kluivert, the De Boers, Bergkamp, Stam etc etc....

We are by no means a feeder club, in the same note we are not a selling club. We are a club which has an asking price for every player. We are in no postion to let some1 who is worth in excess of 10m go into the last 2 years of his contract, possibly to walk away at the end! That would be stupidity.

Celtic must now look for talen, try to find rough diamonds.... such like Sno and Boruc and mould them to make a profit. WGS bought Boetang for Coventry, paying buttons and sold him for 6-8m within a year. Thats the business Celtic need to get themselves into. Its a risky business but 1 we must explore.

so its a tug of war between spurs n arsenal good as they should enter a bidding war

Just came up on sporting life's live transfer wire that Arsenal are continuing to be linked with Shay Given. Hope thats the case as that would mean they would have Given, Almunia and Fabianski and no need for Artur.:50:

Lets hope Spurs dig in for McGreggor then lol

End of the day Celtic will have a price they will not be willing to go any less than for Boruc and if they cant pay that then they don't get him, personally, I'd rather see him run out his 3 years and be a free agent as id much rather another 3 years of garunteed safe hands.

Also good keepers are hard to find and we would end up spending the best part of what we get for him (If not all in the end) replacing him with keeper after keeper, if he hung around then we would have a while to scout and a better chance of finding a sure thing replacement.
