When we spend £11m on a player * will react wildly. It’s wrong, he’s still young and developing but the transfer fee and rosy memories about who he replaced will make people do that. O’Riley started on fire but he did get replaced with Hatate and Mooy and then the final season he was insane, people will forget him being out the team starting amazing and ending amazing

Poor Arne, he's getting it from aw Engels...

Seriously tho, We've seen in wee flashes the kinda class the boy has, as most others have said, he's young, he will be inconsistent but I'm certain there'\s a fecking cracking player in there.

    A moan mostly I think.

There is some class insight on this site as well but, it’s why I’m nigh on 20 years on the * now. But in that 20 years I don’t know if thats me between being a wee guy and mid 30’s now, but everything is far more reactionary, less level headed and some opinions whether true or not just catch on and get repeated, constantly

Schmeichal probably isn’t on anything mental, his season just before us at Anderlecht he was poor and deemed past it, didn’t hit the levels he could in France either but was decent. Him having a good Euro’s could have bumped it up a bit, but it was generally thought the Euros would have been his last hurrah in football.

Don’t get me wrong he won’t be on * money, but it won’t be big money. Probably similar to Joe Hart, who wasn’t on big money either and chose to come up here on less money. Think Kaspar is the same. He had other offers from high paying retirement leagues. Coming to us might be a lower paying retirement one :56:

Barely been on over the last month.

One of our best starts to a season in years, spent record amounts over the summer, team playing good football yet nearly every thread is * moaning, mainly about the new players. And it's generally the same * who moaned about guys like Bernardo, Khun and the original loan signing of Idah, they don't care how many times they are proved wrong and made to look clueless just so long as they can have a moan and say ”told you so”.
Trusty thread is perfect example, folk who had likely never seen him play but wrote him off based on opinions of Sheffield utd fans. Plays out of position, while trying to settle in, generally I think he's been absolutely fine but any tiny slip up and it's ”told you so” only to then be made to look pretty foolish after his performance midweek. Will be the exact same with Engels, anyone with even the smallest clue about football can see the boys gonna be a top player, he just needs a bit of time to settle

The worst I ever saw it was the Covid year. The fact that everyone was under so much psychological pressure from all the Covid stuff (e.g. lockdowns and worries about elderly relatives), that a decade-long project of 10iar was being blown and almost gifted to our biggest rivals with one of the scummiest managers I can remember them having, that no one could go to the games, that it was Lenny and people were already angry at how he was given the job in the first place, that the board then essentially hung him out to dry by refusing to fire him when it was clear he wasn't coping well all made it a perfect storm of toxic negativity. After having been on here almost every day for a decade, I ended up not logging in for 2 years.

How Ange turned all that round so quickly I'll never understand. The man is a genius.

Leave him on the bench today and give him a rest, lots of big game coming up so squad rotation is vital.

We could do with finding another Mooy-esq older head to link up with McGregor and help keep midfield fresh.

Big E will be fine, I've no doubts he will run games, I just get the feeling he's likely to be that type of talent someone like Rogic was rather than the sheer numbers man O'Riley turned into in his last season.

Sure what we saw in earlier games means we have a player , also only here, but the fee did seem on the high side, but guess everyone is wanting as much as they can.

Has been * though lately, but early days.

Would maybe put him on bench and alternate midfield at the moment.

Does look to have a shot on him.

Regardless of what he might be, when there are players waiting in the wings and perhaps unfairly not getting a fair crack of the whip, naturally people will question this. Any celtic players performance will be scrutinised, such is the pressure of playing for a club our size.
Engels probably has been fine in some games but i dont think he has been impacting others in the manner that a player in his role should and in fairness to him it is only early days.
But Bernardo is going to be a top player and for me at this moment in time deserves to be starting ahead of him.
Competition is healthy and it breeds improvement and Engels needs to be managed.

Yeah no problem with that and £11m price tag shouldn't mean guaranteed to start if others are currently showing more.
My issue is more with the ones absolutely * desperate to write him off and call him a waste of money after 8 weeks

True. Look at the example of Kuhn, it took him a while to settle but he was taken out of the team before he was put back in and he is flying now.
I dont think removing Engels will do him any harm but I also think the role BR is asking of him is killing him a bit. I feel he should be used as a more conventional centre mid, maybe even alongside Cal with a little freedom to break forward until he beds in and better understands the players, set up, rotations etc.
I think at the moment its too marauding and not enough positional restraint.

I don't know why people don't trust that Rodgers generally knows what he's doing with these things. If there's one area where his record speaks for itself, it's developing young players.
