I actually bought DayZ a few days ago after reading somewhere that they're not going to give it a flash/daily while it's still in alpha as they don't want to encourage too many people to buy the game before it's finished.

Not sure how true that is but it's a really good game and you should give me a shout whenever you get it and we can go and hunt some bandits together. :50:

Ah right I hadn't seen that but I did think that could be a possibility. I'll definitely get it before the sale ends anyway, looks * class. Will give you a shout when I'm up and running!

    The laughs we will have.

That's an actual screenshot from my first encounter with another player. I said "nice hat", and he took off his hat and gave me it. Then I took off my trousers and tried to give him them in exchange. Minutes later we were both shot in the back by a passing bandit.

Think I'm gonna have to watch a few youtube vids before I dive into Arma as it looks like there's quite a lot to learn.

Don't want to go diving into the multiplayer without knowing my * as I'll just end up * everyone off and getting banned from servers.

If you do the campaign you learn everything you need to know. There is also training missions that teach you how to fly, command a squad etc.
    I'd start with them.
This is far easier to get into than Arma 2 for example.

Multi player is.... just like any other game. Run around shooting. You only really stick with your platoon as the map is so big you need ferried around via chopper etc.
Altis Life never tried. Don't appeal to me at all.

There are clans out there who take it very seriously and some only semi-serious.
I joined one beginning of this year. Was so real it was uncanny. Posh officer blokes and platoon sergeants swearing at you for not keeping your spacing or forgetting how many bullets you have left :smiley-laughing002:
It was fun and you get to meet some really nice guys, many of who are ex Forces.
I think for guys who aren't they train you up etc. but remembering all the acronyms and target ID'ing etc takes getting used to as it's not a thing like on the telly or films. It's far more confusing :smiley-laughing002:

I don't have this installed as i'm running from a 240gb SSD and got all my driving sims on there and a few other games.
Have DayZ installed but it's a * nightmare as i'm fed up of starving to death as the servers only seem to respawn food every blue moon.

ID is same as on here.

Found you on Steam via Tulf. I'm Iggy Wiggum.

If you fancy giving DayZ a go give me a shout. I was starving to death quite a bit at first but I found venturing inland and exploring rather than going around the coastal cities/ towns and there's loads of grub to be had. Might just have been the last server I played on but I had so many tins of beans I had to start throwing them away.

EDIT: Trying to do that infantry showcase mission. It's quite solid. AI team mates are useless as well. :52:

I haven't played it enough to form much of an opinion. The tutorials seem quite difficult but I might just ditch them in favour of doing a bit of campaign. I only really want to get to grips with the basic game mechanics before I launch myself into the multiplayer anyway, as it seem s that that's where the real fun is at.

From what I've heard though this isn't a shooter like COD or CS. The maps are huge apparently and there's a lot of tactics involved.

Although there's also a mod that simulates life in Turkmenistan, or something like that.

I'd recommend watching some youtube vids or reading some reviews before buying it. It's half price for the next day or so, so you have some time to mull it over before the price jumps back up. :50:

Meant to say as well Arma 2 is only around a fiver with all the mods, and that means you can play the DayZ mod as well.

Haven't played either of them but I think there's still a lot of people that do and that means you can have a bash at both without having to stick that much money on it.

Is that mod the same as the one that can be bought?

Na the DayZ mod is a free expansion to the game Arma 2.

The DayZ that you buy is a standalone game being developed due to the popularity of the mod.

The standalone is still in development though so you get it for 20 quid just now if you can put up with the facts that it's quite buggy and there's still quite a lot to be added. The mod is just a fan made add on to the Arma 2 game so although it works okay it won't ever be updated or anything.

Basically, Arma 2 (+ the dlc which means you can play DayZ mod) is about a fiver. It is still quite modern and has a decent amount of people playing it as far as I'm aware but there won't be any more updates for them.

Arma 3 and DayZ are around 20 quid each. Arma 3 is the full release apart from the dlc which isn't really necessary at the moment. DayZ is early alpha and won't be finished for at least a year but is still very playable.

Buster said DayZ is not likely to be reduced any further by the way.
