    Aye definetly.

The team now is maybe even as good as Strachans team in his first season, which was his best team.

Look at all the great players that passed through the doors who were under utilised and not used at all and I don't care what anyone says Gravesen used properly could have been immense. You don't earn a move to Real Madrid for being average. Riordan had such potential but it was all * up and we know McGeady only survived being culled by Strachan because he's ridiculously talented. But for all Strachans faults, I enjoyed his time in charge, we were a tough team then. Teams found it incredibly difficult to break us down. Dire football though.

  4. no not yet we have potential by the barrel load though :shamrock:

There really isn't much to compare yet, except styles of football. We've yet to see this Celtic side attempt to gain success consistently and give a good account of themselves in Europe.

We're playing better football than WGS ever did in my opinion but attractive football isn't always successful football. We got dumped out of Europe, although you could argue it came too soon for our squad. We lost the CIS Cup to our fiercest rival, there's still the possibility of not winning the league and the Scottish Cup is still very much up for grabs and that's just this year.

Listen, I'm just as excited as the next Celtic supporter about the potential and talent of our squad and our manager but we've won absolutely nothing yet. Lets hope Lennon doesn't walk away from this job and we've got something to compare in four years time because the potential's there.

You cannot compare trophy hauls when you are comparing these two teams. That team of Strachan's had played together for longer and this present team has only had the chance to win 1 domestic trophy so far.

What you can compare at this point in time is the style of football the two teams play/played. I would far rather watch the present Celtic team than watch any of Gordon Strachan's teams. Strachan's idea of exciting football made me want to gouge my eyeballs out - it was * brutal to watch. Neil Lennon has given us back a fast, attacking style of playing and I for one am very grateful to him for that.

not yet. one day maybe next season, or the season after that depending if we keep our core players and what players Lennon brings in during the next window and we will be. i have no doubt about it.

i think it's too soon to judge a 1 year period of management against a settled one of over something like 3 or 4 years. maybe judging Strachan's team at the end of his first campaign against the team we have now would be more comparable? if that were to be the case, i'd vote for the current team.

has to be strachans team, but theres plenty potential in our current team, they have to win trophies and lose the feeling of fragility that comes from them just now, 2 or 3 quality signings could sort this

No! Strachans team won trophies and played in the champions league, maybe in time we can say yes but as for now this team has not achieved anything, yet! Trophies is what you base on how good a team is imo, Lennons side plays better football and hopefully this will lead to what Strachans side had, success!

  10. no and anyone that says yes at this point please think about what you have done, this team has done nothing yet or won nothing

best ask this in 3 years time, but at this moment in time no it's not not a chance

No we're not better than that team.

For one simple reason - our team aint done f*ck awl.

A couple of flashy wins against medocire SPL opposition aint gonna get me excited.

Our team let us down in their first major pressure game - no doubt about it. (and thats me discluding the disaster that was Europe this year)

Rangers seemed more up for it - not good enough.

We do have some very good individuals but ask this at the end of the season and we'll have a better idea if this team can be better.

Right now - no. Of Course not.

I don't think that's entirely fair to be honest.

The game at Ibrox on January 2nd was a HUGE game for us. If we'd lost that day we'd have been way behind Rangers and it would have been a long road back for us to catch them. We stuffed them that day, even though we were decimated with injuries, and got ourselves right back into the title race.

The Scottish Cup ties with Rangers were also big matches. Any Cup tie against those * is massive. We played well in both of those games too.

No, we havent won anything yet so to even suggest we have a better squad now than we did then is redic.

I think it's a bit of a myth that Strachan's teams always played dire football. Especially in the first two seasons. I was pleased when Strachan first came and he had the team playing the ball on the deck rather than the more direct approach of O'Neill's teams.

I go for yes. We have a better side and if we can keep this team together then hopefully we can prove it in terms of trophies.
Strachans team had achieved trophies but they were at their peak and would have been on a downward spiral.

    Il grant you that.

That January 2nd match was indeed huge.

We were on a shocking run - the St.Johnstone game just before where we got they 2 last minute goals was absoloutely dire.

Lack of creativity and invention was worrying.

We got the victory though and we then got the victory at Ibrox. Which no-one expected.

    Yes ill give you that.

That being said - that was January.

If the players think thats pressure wait too you see after the split when every point is a potential title winner.

A helicopter Sunday is very possible in my opinion.

I just hope the boys do it.

I agree that the football was quite good in Strachan's first season in charge. For me, it tailed off badly after that though.

You really cannot seriously compare a team that has won nothing that matters for nearly 3 years with one that won three in a row and 2 last 16 CL runs in the previous 3 years. Basically its been like day an night comparing that glorious 3 years with the last 3.

If you just take Lenny's team alone, you are still comparing a side who have won absolutely nothing yet with the best 3 year period in our history since Stein. I think it would take 2 or 3 more seasons of sustained winning to deserve the comparison. Lenny's team look a decent side of a fairly good player standard and a few stand out players but so was WGS's side. Its all down to results. There is no glory in looking the part and not winning the title.

What I am not sure yet is did we turn the corner permanently in that game or did we just have a form peak in January/February. We have not looked half as good in March IMO, more like out pre-January ways. If we revert to that then we will have our work cut out. However, I dont think Rangers could live with us in our Jan/Feb form. The question is is the real Celtic the superb Jan/Feb one or is i the pretty unconvincing team of the rest of this season?
