Now I know this is just hear say & rumours at the moment, but when a few websites start to put the stories up, you do start to think there maybe abit of truth behind it all. Not saying that Celtic will accept any of the bids nor let any of these players leave, but the possibilty of this happening can be damaging unless Celtic have a plan to bring replacements in & fast..
Now the stories as you probably know is that of Stephen McManus going to Boro, Lee Naylor to Ipswich & Danny Fox to Burnley, I don't have a problem with any of these players leaving, if we get some money for them, I am kind of shocked at Danny Fox maybe leaving, but if its good for the club, then why not?
The point I am getting to though, is Lee Naylor & Danny Fox, alot on here have said aren't the best full backs, I think we can agree with that, I would say Fox is a little better than Naylor, but thats a matter of opinion. Anyway if we let both go, we then have no left backs atall, so unless Celtic have someone lined up I think we are shooting ourselves in the foot. Because then we would be forced to play Darren O'Dea at left back or 1 of the younger guys..
We have already been punished for letting Robson & Caldwell go to early, with all the injuries we have had & we really haven't brought in any replacements, or the guys we have brought in, aren't up to speed yet, I'm worried if we let these guys go, we might regret it. But as I said if there is a replacement or replacements lined up, then I wouldn't have a problem with that..
What do you guys think of the matter?

Fantastic point about being too hasty in terms of departures. But there better be a replacement lb, unless Wilson plays there when he's back. Hooiveld can play LB i understand, but he is a CB no doubt

On the other side it has given us a chance to look at Thompson ..Hooiveld not too far off either ..Landry on his way back too , so i think its not too much -

Well thats it though, imo, it's only Left back that needs looked at in terms of replacement.
Admittedly other areas could be strengthened but LB is the main thought atm. -

Its good if it works, bad if it doesnt. The deciding factor is Mowbray's management of the changes and whether he's changing things at a rate he can deal with.
I'm all for the purge if it gets the results on the field. -
Well he will live or die by his signings come the end of the season. To be honest I'm grateful to see any action at all as we're usually himmin and hawwin during the transfer window with a whole lot of false hope and let downs!
-
That means a new LB and CB are a must, McManus going meaning possibly St Ledger ?

I want to see if Misun lives up to the hype at LB - weren't AC Milan after him before we got him?

i now believe we have a manager , he is showing the ruthless side needed to run this club ,wot brought it home was the decision to let fox speak to interested parties and let mcmanus do the same, fox most would agree has been slight better than naylor not much though, this is a brave thing to do ,admitting it didnt work out and the speed of the change makes me think diffrently about mogga, good on him .
i now expec us to make an aproach for mulgrew who is a better defender and who can chip in a goal or 2 ,out of contract in the summer so all good. -

We clearly needed to get rid of the "leaders" who completely collapsed last season under Strachan, I reckon quite a few of them spat the dummy when Mowbray told them they were *: Caldwell, McManus, Robson, McDonald, Naylor.
Others like Samaras, McGeady & Crosas have responded well to criticism & tried to push on this season.
I feel this happens a lot when a club changes management - remains to be seen if their replacements will fare any better, Fox for example has not - but Mowbray seems to have acted quickly on that one too.
I'm glad he's clearing out the * players with * attitudes, I'm also glad that he's going for Scandanavian players, as they fit well with the Scottish league generally (Gravesen..lol) & are better value.
He won't be letting them go without replacements in line, we also have guys like Thomson, Misun, O'Dea & Caddis to come in on the positions vacated, even if we don't get more replacements.
I don't think he's been too hasty, or too slow - he needed time to properly assess the squad & has acted as soon as he possibly could.
Good manager.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 25, 2010 -
