Here's a thread for people into architecture old and new and new developments in cities and towns wherever your from. I personally love Greek/Roman classical but also some of the more subtle, tasteful modern architecture. I hate brutalism. :smiley-laughing002:
There's a lot of really interesting things happening in Scottish cities like Glasgow and Aberdeen in particular, in terms of the post industrial changes, knocking down old 60s/70s era, brutalist, high-rise flats and creating more people friendly suburbs. But this thread, like the forum is not for just Scots. Wherever your from, feel free to post. :50:
Edinburgh has a lot of interesting projects going on too with the New Waverly development. For me personally though Glasgow is more interesting to see how it evolves from having a lot of big gap sites and high rises and not taking advantage of the Clyde to having loads of, quite attractive, new mid-rise office builds, new developments at the riverside and the gradual filling up of those big gap sites with some tasty looking stuff. I think it will look like a mini Chicago or lower Manhattan in a decade or so, what with the less strict height restrictions than places like Edinburgh.
I think all European cities have a low skyline and that's good but also have more talls in clustered strategic sites, maybe by a large body of water, so they don't ruin historical skylines. I think we'll see Glasgow go this way.
The new Dundee Waterfront development is really cool as well. I actually think both Dundee teams should sell their current grounds and pool their resources to build a nice new stadium by the riverside. That would be smart, be financially good for them and good for the league to have another good, decent sized stadium.
Here's a link to a specialist architecture forum I lurk at a lot; it's the Scottish section and it's got sub-forums for Glasgow and Edinburgh and threads for Aberdeen, Dundee, etc. It's a good place to go for info on new builds, for the interested.

But for us at TC, I thought I'd start this for those interested to chat and post pics, etc. :50:

I agree Brutalism is horrible, but it makes for good photography, albeit that's the only thing I can appreciate about it.

Was never an interest of mine until I worked in Edinburgh for a year.
Walking around the old and new towns on a daily basis. Still enjoy doing it every now and then, some unique areas. -

Seville blew me away! I went for the football and beer but could not stop looking at the architecture.
On a side note, does anyone else's spell check correct seville with Saville? I very nearly posted "Saville blew me away!" Thankfully it was 2.40 and I had a wee bit of time to amend my postLast edited by a moderator: Apr 6, 2016 -
