It's not great at the moment by any means but it could be alot worse. Anyone who wants to 'give up' on us as such because we are still in 4 competitions, albeit just, and not playing great should go ahead because they won't really be missed.

We've been spoiled by success in recent years to a certain extent and it's influencing the views of many. We expect better than some of the performances we have seen lately in Europe but times have changed drastically, even since that win against Barca. They will continue to do so as well.

Usually it's my generation who get criticised for this spoiled attitude but I'm beginning to see that definitely is not the case.

Don't want to quote the whole thing but cracking post. Pretty much how I feel.

The players is a good point. Like you, 90% of the players in our squad could leave tomorrow and I wouldn't be bothered. The only players I'd hate to see go are Brown (which won't happen) and Lustig, purely because I feel those two are likeable guys who are good players on their day and would run through brick walls for Celtic.

I'm still excited for every game when it gets near and I'm * off when we don't win, but the obsession is slowly dying right now.

You can't possibly compare any of those generations to the one we have currently. Looking back at past glories and entirely different times in football, never mind just at this club, will do you no good.

As for Lennon's side I can imagine it aye as I seen his sides blow big games on numerous occasions in the beginning in Europe and throughout in the cups.

There was plenty supporters of other teams desperate to see Lennon remain our manager.

Markybhoy's post pretty much sums it up for me as well. I think there's a general feeling of malaise among Celtic supporters right now and the problems lie in so many different areas that it's difficult to identify a solution.

I don't think they cared either way, they knew they'd get pumped off of Lenny's teams. It took Ronny coming in for anyone to think there was even the slightest chance of us getting beat for the league - which was ridiculous even then.

99 points in Lenny's last season, an incredible amount of goals scored in the league especially.

I heard plenty say he would get found out if he left Celtic, and that is looking like the case just now if we are being honest. We won the league with the lowest points total ever under Lennon as well to be fair. Fortunately, there wasn't even a team of Aberdeen's level now at the time, or we could have been in danger of losing the title then. Fans of other teams knew we would win the league then, and they still do no now, that hasn't changed. Some of our cup exits under Lennon were equally as embarrassing as some of of European performances under Deila.

Aye we did do that under Lennon, in a season that we got to the last 16 in the Champions League as well, we wouldn't have been in danger of losing the league that season if there was a team challenging, that was the 1st ever season after the Huns died, we took a period of adjustment to get used to playing with no challenge and just concentrated on Europe.

A team of Aberdeens level? They're 3rd in the league and absolutely * poor, they've won * all, they aren't at any sort of standard whatsoever.

He wasn't 'found out' at us.

We're playing some really poor stuff right now. It's very difficult to watch.

Nobody knows what would have happened if there was a team challenging.

Aberdeen might well be third, but they are still a better team than anything Lennon faced in the years he won the league with us.

I never said he was found out at us. I said that I heard plenty of fans from other teams saying he would get found out if he was to leave Celtic. Since then, he has went to Bolton, done a good job initially, but now has them rock bottom of a league, with plenty bang average teams in it.

Id take Lennon back no bother. He will have learned a lot of lessons in that league, he may have spotted a few players too.

Like the poster of this thread I too have supported Celtic for a similar amount of time and watched us go through the Good, Bad and Ugly (TM) times.

The one thing I can say, is that the biggest change has been at board level and the way the club is looked at as a business now. It is all about the buck, balancing the books and keeping share holders happy.

Don't get me wrong, I am not knocking this (rather this than go bust like the Orc's), I like the fact that we have the best business model in football but this austerity measure on selling and purchasing players does not allow for the free flowing football that we love. The team changes constantly and the players we have are not capable of producing this type of football in Europe.

As for the lack of effort on the field I would say that the players are trying their hardest unfortunately apart from a few namely (Brown, Tierney, Lustig), they just don't have the same calibre/level of intensity we want them to produce.

I believe that we would need one of the big named managers (ancelotti, mourinho etc) to make a difference as he would be still looking at players of similar calibre due to financial restraints, but i believe these men are better man managers, tactically we are using the same model most clubs are look at Man Utd, City, Arsenal, Real, Barca all similar just have better technicians and execution on the field.

Until our financial model changes we will follow this pattern or the club changes hand and a new owner pours money in, which due to Financial Fair Play I don't think is possible now.

So how do we grow or get better well that's easy more money to spend on better players, however how do we achieve this that's the difficult part. We can Change Leagues (this topic has been battered to death and won't happen). so that leaves Scottish football as a whole needing to grow and improve for us to improve so we are stuck now in a catch 22 situation what we need to do is work with other teams and the SFA to improve the game, invest in home grown talent and build a model to deliver talent from our own schools and youth teams.

Harsh but in my own opinion the only way forward.

Only a matter of time before this thread started the Lenny bashing

Why if Lenny was a rubbish manager is he used as a comparison to RD? Surely if Ronnie is a great manager and Lenny is rubbish then Ronnie should be compared to MON or maybe even Jock Stein.

Some rocket had an article or blog post that linked up on Celtic News Now around April last year titled, "5 reasons Ronny Deila is our best manager since Jock Stein". I actually think the person who wrote it was serious too.

If it was Ronnie is the best Celtic manager ever then I could guess who wrote it:smiley-laughing002:

I haven't seen anyone doing that. Too many on here get all touchy whenever someone talks about Lennon in a negative way in regards to some of his results.

So its not Lenny bashing just some people talking negative about him in a thread about the current team.

It's not bashing him though. One poster highlighted that all supporters of other teams want Deila to remain our manager, and said "what does that tell you." I pointed out that it was the very same when Lennon was in charge. I never read anything into it then, and I won't be now.

The post previous to yours also singled out Lenny and you continued to point out how "he would be found it if he left Celtic"

I fail to see what Lennys record at Bolton has to do with apathy toward this team unless people are considering switching their allegiance to Bolton.
