The best place to defend is in the opposition's penalty box.

I'd rather Celtic play attractive football and win 4-2 rather than sqeak out 1-0 wins every week. How many times under Strachan did a "hold the fort" 1-0 end up as a draw and costing us 2 points

I'm looking forward to the new season, excited to see who we will get, how the team will line up and if we can play a slick passing game while getting the results.

I think you are being over optimistic seeing this as the only potential problem, i see many more, and i think we will lose the league again, i dont rate this guy, i have a really bad feeling about it, but its nice to see i aint the only one!

I agree with that and I'm hoping that he does make the defence impose themselves on the game more the zonal marking drove me mad at times, especially at set pieces it was keystone cops defending that put the fear into me.

If we get off to a flyer then I'll be very optimistic but we need a left back urgently

Not worried in the least bit about the SPL opposition but Europe's a different matter and a gung ho approach will leave us wide open to being punished severely.

Think Mowbray will make sure most games we're playing most of the football in the opponent's half. I'm looking forward to some really good flowing football with a rake of goals being scored by us.

I feel the exactly the same, i think we could score goals if we buy a decent CF but I think Mowbray can be naive in defence but we shall see.

As for those who are excited I aint been so unexcited since as long as I can remember.
At least when the infamous 'Dream Team' came in there was hype and excitement but this appointment has done nothing for me.

I think your a bit premature with that kind of statement ,when a ball hasnt been kicked in anger yet ,,,forgot WBA ,they where allways going to be the whipping boys of that league by the lack of money he had to spend for a premiership team ,Mowbray was a good defender and he will im sure shore up that defence of ours .

    I'm not underwhelmed at all.

I always felt Gordon wanted in his heart of hearts to play fine, attacking, flair football - but that he let his caution get the better of his instincts.

Heard him talk on a number of occasions about using fear as a motivator: and so it can be, in the short term. But in the long term it just wears you down, everything becomes apprehension rather than hope and belief.

Gordon has brought a lot to the club, and achievements-wise has been one of the most successful managers in our history. But my hope for the new year is that Tony will have us playing the sort of football that Gordon really wanted to have us playing, and throw caution to the wind a bit.

If that means a few scares at the back, and a few goals shipped in the process of our evolution, then so be it.

He's not starting from a disaster. Gordon's time has left us the makings of a fine defence: of a fine team. Tony's challenge is to fulfil that potential.

    Bring it on.

I agree with most of what is being said, we doo have the makings of a sturdy defence, Strachan just wouldn't give players like O'Dea and Loovens a chance.

Not sure about Robinson being the answer, will have to wait and see.

Part of the problem Celtic have is getting down the wings and getting crosses into the box, this is one of the reasons JVOH never scored as many goals last season and the fact he had injuries.

Personally I would have loved to see a manager such as Bilic or Martinez at Paradise, could probably had any of them for the same as we are going to pay for Mowbray if the board had got their finger out.

Saying that, If Mowbray turns us into a footballing side that can score goals I will support him 100%.

How can you justify that statement???

Because they got relegated from the EPL - The best league in the world with some of the best players in the world - & were playing them week in week out. They were only 4 points away from avoiding relegation.

Our defence can't get any worse mate and i'm not sure how Mowbray sets up for set pieces but if it's not zonal marking we will see an improvement in our defence!

As i said mate, i have a feeling. But if you need the reasons why it is because of what happened with West Brom. Just seems strange to me that we should appoint a manager who got relegated.... doesn't fill me with confidence thats all.

That said i hope im wrong :50:

Celtic traditionally attack teams, with the attitude that if the ball is in the opponent's half then they can't score. Tony Mowbray's type of football with suit us to a tee. Score more goals than your opponent thats all it is about.

Evening Gents - as a Baggies fan (I come in Peace) I don't think there is any reason to be underwhelmed. You've got yourselves a good up and coming manager who plays football the right way.
I know us baggies seem a bit bitter at the moment but I think that should be your guide as to how much we rated the football he got us to play.
I won't say he's the best manager in the World, he still has an awful lot to learn, it will be interesting to see how his tactics work against Champions League oposition for a start - however when you lose a game you will have lost it playing quality football.
