Not a teetotaller but not a big drinker either. Have been through periods of drinking too much and it wasn't worth it. If I drink, it's max once a week. Was at a night out on Friday and had 4 pints. That's plenty for me. Try not to mix my drinks either.

The drinking culture in this country is a serious issue and the government should be doing more to educate people, in my opinion.

Drink has created many good memories and laughs for me but on the other hand the bad nights make you think why you even drank in the first place. On a typical night out i personally probably burn about £50, at the time it's worth it but the next morning your left thinking why oh why did i spend so much. Very hard to stop especially with the social group i hang about with. Peer pressured to *!

I've lived most of my life in the DC area

Birthplace of the Straight Edge movement

    * will punch you for having a drink at their shows - it gets even worse if you go up to Boston, FSU.

I'm sorry. If you are against the drink, okay, thats a personal choice, don't enforce it on others. I'll knock you to the ground if you try to get physical with me over the alcoholic content of my liquids.

Never had a drop in my life. People obviously are shocked, when I tell them that as if I committed some heinous crime and start asking me why, but I don't have an actual answer, never felt like it I guess, so I often just make up some stupid story and say it's cause of religious reasons and what not.

I don't have a problem with alcohol, it's a question of personal choice, just as long as others don't suffer for it.

What baffles me though is teenagers today, almost kids, but people in their 20s as well, whose main goal, when they go out is to get drunk, not to hang out with friends, they say they can't wait to go out and get wasted. Don't see the appeal nor the reason for that to be announced like that, as if it's some badge of honour.

    I'm not picky.
Completely agree. I think with the kids it's a kind of bragging thing. They get totally * out their head's and brag about it to their mates as if it's such a brilliant thing to do.

I suppose in a way I can understand folk getting drunk while having a good time. You know, just getting carried away with it all, but just to go out purely to get drunk? Never understood that. Maybe I don't understand it because I don't do it, but never seen the fascination with it.

Hardly drink at all these days, maybe a couple pints on a Friday or Saturday night sitting with the missus watching a dvd or tv.
If I do go out with my mates its 4 or 5 pints at the most.

Agree with alcohol/substance education, this needs massive investment at grass roots & addict level, hope that if minimum price becomes law, powers that be invest the proceeds wisely, however methinks not. :shamrock:

I drank when I was 16/17/18, but last year I realised how much I disliked it and didn't want to anymore, so stopped in August, and never plan on drinking alcohol again. It's attitudes towards it that need to change. People pretend to find any story that begins with "I was drunk" really funny every time they hear it, as if they're completely new to the concept. It's the same thing over and over again. And now, people are more interested in taking photos of their drink before they drink it, pictures of themselves drinking, pictures of the empty bottles, then posting it all on Facebook to show what a good time they had. Not buying into it, so glad I stopped.

I love a good drink, and I always fancy getting drunk (I truly love the experience of being drunk, I feel much happier than when sober) but I hate the way I am when I'm drunk and I hate the way I feel the day after.

Good to hear. Once I start drinking I can't stop... only had six cans tonight but there are too more in the fridge... work tomorrow. Will probably have a bad hangover. Neither big nor clever.

Get annoyed at myself for drinking mid-week.

Drinking to excess isn't a big deal to me. Credit to those who don't drink at all as I think it is quite a good attitude to have. Sadly, I think it would be a very difficult think to do in our society when so many of our social life and even working life is based around drinking.

I love my whiskey but besides that I could happily live without alcohol.
