£2.7 mil, that's the difference between playing in the SPL and The Premiership im afraid. A team like Charlton can pay that for an 18 year old without batting an eyelid coz they know they will get more funds. Even if they got relegated, which they won't, they'd still be bringing in more money than us domestically.

There's no way we'd be able to pay that for a player his age, which is a huge * bummer :38:

says nothin on charlton or arsenals official site so i wont believe it until that happens. I read that he is booked in for a medical with celtic today and thats just as official as the word hes moved to charlton, i.e unofficial!

It just demonstrates how ridiculous the english transfer market is. 2.7m is a crazy fee paid by a desperate manager.

If that is what we were quoted for him then I'm glad we didn't pay it.

[IMG]The transfer window may only have been open 5 days but the transfer gossip already seems to be hitting fever pitch.

One long running saga that appears to be coming to an end is that of Arsenal's 18-year old striker Anthony Stokes.

Last night Planet Celtic told you of a report in the Dublin Evening Herald which said that Stokes was on the verge of a move to either Charlton, Everton, Sunderland or Celtic – with the latter two leading the chase.

However, the Sun seems to know different and is claiming that the Dubliner has agreed a deal to join Premiership strugglers Charlton in a £2.7 million deal.

The paper says that the deal will be completed "within the next three weeks" once manager Alan Pardew has raised the funds by offloading some of his unwanted stars.

Another striker who has been linked with a move to Celtic Park over the past few weeks is Rotherham's Will Hoskins, however, it looks like he is also on his way to the lower reaches of the Premiership with Watford poised to announce his signing later today, BBC Sheffield reports.

Meanwhile, if BBC Scotland is to be believed then Rangers are closing in on deals for Hibs midfield duo Kevin Thomson and Scott Brown. However, the Beeb offers no insight as to how the managerless crisis club are exactly "closing in"!?

The BBC also claim that Rangers will announce the loan signing of former Hearts defender Andy Webster within the next 24 hours.

Elsewhere, Hearts claim they've won the race to sign the young Romanian kid Dumitru Copil – otherwise known as the new Hagi / Ronaldinho / Maradonna / Wayne Biggins.

No further news yet on the future of Alan Thompson who has been linked heavily with a move to Leeds United.

Please head over to our forums to express your opinion on the discussion raised in this article! Over 2000 members so far, so why not get talking to your fellow Celts?!

It's the sun so it sounds like paper talk and planetceltic are normally always right..They were right about JVOH and they had it on their site a month before he signed.

If he does sign for that amount it will really show how hard a job WGS has signing talent for the CL without wads of cash, the only time we have leverage is when we go to one of the touted lower league players and offer them games in the CL and even that doesn't work sometimes (see Will Hoskins)
