The rest was used to pay the debt. I THINK that's the real reason McGeady was sold. Debt.
I think Lenny WANTED to buy a Keane-type player, but the board told him no, and restricted him to players like Stokes.
Notice I said I THINK. My opinion. I'm not insinuating that I know why the board did what they did.

My thoughts are if we fail to win the league this year the issue that we spent considerably less than we brought in could see the board come under some bad pressure.

Well man, I was a big fan, and I'm telling you, don't feel bad, because he WANTED TO LEAVE anyway. He was tired of all the abuse in Scotland and wanted a new challenge. If we kept him, he wouldn't have been playing his best anyways.

I'll be * of if thats the case. 6 mill debt is manageable i believe plus we where told the McGeady money would be re-invested, maybe we where hoodwinked and the money we brought in from the other player sales was used to offset the debt. Even if we used 3 million of McGeady money to bring the debt down we should still have good a few million left, atleast enought to have brought and another RB and CB. The McGeady money issue wil be the stick to whack the board should we be struggling.

Surely before we sold a player Lennon also had a transfer budget of I'm guessing around 5 million to spend this has been totally overlooked by us all something just dosnt add up for me ?

Thats very disappointing, and you are also being a little generous in terms of juarez and murphy, considering Lennon himself said juarez was only 2mill and Murphy 1mill. This may come back to haunt us, especially our measly 600k or so investment in the defence.

Exactly mate. I was thinking about the huns and they have bought. They have pretty much spend what the sold. Celtic on the other hand seem to have alot of money that has went awol.

    A few main tranfers

    Boruc - £1.7 million
    McManus - £1.5 million
    McGeady - £10 million
    Fortunes - £2.5 million

At least £15 million. Plus alot in wages.

    Murphy - £1 million
    Juarez - £2.5 million
    Kayal - £1.25 million
    Gary Hooper - £2.5 million
    Izaguirre - £500k
    Stokes - £1.25 million
    Ledley,Cha, Danny, Mulgrew/Forster - Free/Loans.

    At the most £10 million.

The numbers dont add up, and as you said there must have been a budget there before we sold a player. The only thing I can conclude from this would be the board wont spend anymore as we have a team capable of winning the SPL and dont need to spend more money if were not in Europe.

I think they were wanting to clear the debt mowbary caused now. They probs think it will pay off when UEFA bring in the new tranfer rules where a clubs spending will be measured by their revenue and debts.

    Little forward thinking perhaps?

maybe a little too trusting of our board

then again maybe thats what it is, lenny may be waiting until january to see who he can get on pre-contract, wanted a bit in the bank in case he couldnt get anybody

a lot of knee-* reactions on here, lenny & co can only get who will come to celtic, we didnt get keane or bellamy, so we got stokes, * do for now and well now have at least one proper striker on the * pitch

    'Marquee' Signing !!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Well, another 'Transfer Window' gone by & another load of false promises !!!!!!!!!!!!
And we (or atleast I) believed the Celtic Board's tall promises of 'Marquee' signings (Maybe Anthony Stokes was that 'Marquee' signing they had promised) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same old, same old, but hey, we atleast have new players, some seem good, some I don't ken, unlike the 'Manky Mob', who have HEE HAW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:celt_2:
Good Luck Lenny & the Bhoys !!!!!!!!! Season 2010-11 Scottish Champions !!!!!:shamrock:

PS: Dear Mr. Lawell, stop giving us false promises !!!!!!!!!!!

PPS: What do you think the bookies will offer for 'Huns to get nil points, in the CL group stages' !!!!!!!!!!!!! he he he............:86:

id rather have 11 new players than to blow it all on a *marquee* signing.
False promises ??? the q+a sessions lawall and lennon had clearly stated "no keane or bellamy" if thats who you ment.

ps look at other threads mate there kinda the same

I'd say Jaurez is pretty marquee, plus the numerous other internationalists we've got.

i never felt that we needed a marquee signing what we did need was for us to sign another centre half last night someone with speed becauce as it stands any team who has passe up front will cause us big problems through the middle.

some people are just never happy, we got a lot of great signings and the board kept most of the mcgeady money to balance the books, seems right to me, why spend every last penny just for the sake of it

    Spot on.

You mean the huns with Jelavic. we so needed a pacy CB to assist Dan.

Look on the bright side....we've got 347 midfielders :56:

i think like a lot of people i was expecting a decent name to come in and take the number 7 jersery but i think as a team we are stronger and if lenny gets them playing as a team and scoring goals ill be happy..

on another not i was reading the gossip pages this morning and campbell has just made his debute for the toon reserves and he was being taunted for being fat. maybe we got a get out of jail free with that one.

also on the brightside with the ins and outs this window we dont look to have spent a lot if any so come january we will be able to freshen up the squad.

    hail hail
