Wow never knew that about the orca/great white relationship!

have always found it amazing orcas have never attacked us in the wild. Wonder if we’ll ever find out the reason…

I watched the video and ended up going down a rabbit hole of shark attacks.

I’ve always had a healthy fear of sharks but I genuinely think watching all these attack videos has turned it into a full blown phobia.

I would * myself in the water if I saw any sort of fin approaching me. Hopefully that works as some sort of defence mechanism.

I watched a documentary recently that included the Shark fin trade, it showed very harrowing film of a Shark being dragged onto a boat, then being stabbed repeatedly to incapacitate it then having it's fin removed while it was still alive, then the poor creature was thrown into the sea to drown, all for a fin that has absolutely no medicinal value.

One of the articles said the shark was clubbed when they were trying to recover the body

Apparently orcas don't attack humans in the wild because they're so intelligent and have such a high level of awareness that they know humans aren't food and just leave them alone.

I'm terrified at rhe prospect of a shark attack and the Mrs wants to go scuba diving when we go to Mexico later this year but I'm totally not into it.
I understand the shark might not actually want to eat you and its' only way of working out what you are is an exploratory bite, but * that man, I'd rather just not go in the water.

Seen that theory before but just can’t get on board with it…everything in the sea can be food to them and they eat stuff similar sizes to us length wise in seals, fish and turtles etc.
Has to be something else that stops them that we don’t fully understand at this moment. Wonder if they’ve ever done brain scans on any of the captive orcas they had in America

We are just not on their menu. They only hunt what they have been trained to hunt. The Orca I’ve swam with in Norway have a fish only diet. The follow the Herrings on their migration down the Fjords in Norway.

The Humpbacks now stay with them all year round rather than migrate to east coast of America. This change only happened in the last 10 years. The humpbacks are now fully reliant on the orca.
It’s hard to get pics as your in a full dry suit and a wing blowing in from North Pole makes it challenging.

there are Ocra that hunt Humpback whales but not these (North Atlantic Type 1) subspecies. I believe the Atlantic Type 2 hunt other mammals. Their teeth are very different.
You have 5 subspecies of Orca in northern hemisphere and 5 subspecies in so then hemisphere. Each has their own unique diet

I ignorantly also didn’t realise there was 10 subspecies of them, just assumed they were all the same! Will have to research up on it. Amazing mate :shamrock:
