Signing 30-year old Jonny Hayes for over a mil almost guarantees not making a profit on him. 20-year old Roberts, even at 10> mil, with the money English sides pay for young English players...it's near impossible not to make a profit.

Totally agree with you and I'd love to see us do that, but I'll be stunned if we spend that amount.

15 is a stretch on our budget.

I would like to think if he was available for 10 we would go for it.

Losing Roberts would be horrendous. Our most naturally gifted footballer, big fan favourite and big changing room favourite.

We may have some massive plans to replace him in place if he isn't coming.

Was Roberts settled here in his own place or was he having sleepovers with Tierney??

Expecting us to go 2 and a half time's over our highest ever transfer is not going to happen.... especially in our climate at the moment..

10 mill is doable though for the right player but again, I reckon our board would be twitchy. Brendan COULD sanction it though under this wave in my opinion if he wanted to go all out for someone..

Just seeing a 5/6 million pound signing will be a statement for us these day's if we go for someone..... Which I believe we will and still leaves fund's for other's..

To be honest I don't know what to think when it comes to our financial state or spending power.

We qualified for the CL twice under Lennon and have spent * all since then, last season we qualified when the TV money has supposedly been ramped up. So what are we really capable of spending on a player? I would like to think we would push the boat on a player like Roberts if it was possible at 10 million, I don't really know if we could afford that but I suspect we can, as Murph-E has said, there is (avoiding a serious injury) profit to be made on Roberts, anyone with any ounce of footballing knowledge can see the potential in him. Not to mention the fact a player of his quality could quite easily give us the edge in European qualifiers where we need that little bit extra to qualify.

A prime example is Astana last season, Roberts made something out of nothing over in Kazakhstan and laid it on a plate for Griff which got us an all important away goal. A goal which was literally the difference between us progressing or not, against a tricky side.

Part of me thinks 10 million is doable, and then I think about the money we've spent in recent seasons and it makes me doubtful. I can remember people talking about figures like 15/20 million in total last summer and we ended up spending about a third of that.

We just seem to be a club that won't spend any more than it absolutely has to. This summer will hopefully signal the end of that tag though.

We were never going to pay more than 5M max on Roberts, anything else would have been daylight robbery on our budget.
If they are demanding 15M then they are welcome to him. As far as I am concerned.

Do you not think 10 million on him would be good business?

He instantly makes us a better team and will easily sell for more than 10 million, providing we don't let his contract run down.

Not for that position. We have good cover in Forrest and now Hayes.
I wouldn't mind paying 10M for McCarthy though.

I'm no too savvy on the financial side either mate. I do believe we have fund's to spend, that much is obvious but just for talking sake, failure to qualify for the champion's league again this year would be a nightmare and cancel out last year's possibly..

New pitch is a couple mill or so. External and surroundings of Celtic Park probably being paid off and no doubt other thing's. Still won't make too much of a difference to our signings but just thinking of other thing's where our money is being paid out this summer along with wages, new contracts etc..

I think we CAN afford 10 mill but it's also a case of if Brendan know's a rough budget and wants to blow the majority or all on one player. I highly doubt he'd be up for that..

We all know Paddy is a game changer and a guaranteed profit even if he signed here for 12 mill, which won't happen. I suspect it's a few thing's and not just the fee City would want that's a problem for us..

We did rake in a lot last year with qualifying, the international friendly tournament so should be flush and if Virgil goes in this window, we may have an exceptional case for us where we/Brendan is allowed to spend all or the bulk of that 10% as well as a budget we'll already have roughly set. That could spill it over the 10 mill mark in my opinion..

I'm confident we'll do very good business in this window either way. I'm truly not worried..

I am being serious. If Roberts has been staying in a hotel this whole time he might be glad to be going back to his own home. He might not miss this place as much.

Roberts is considerably better than Forrest and Hayes, and Hayes is predominantly a left winger.

McCarthy would be in contention with Brown and Armstrong for a position in the team. He will not displace Brown and on last seasons form will do very very well to displace Armstrong.

A club like ours can't afford to spend £10m on a player like McCarthy.

I like him, but, he isn't a game changer.

Going for 7.5 to Birmingham and it says all he wants is first team football. Still a good option to replace Roberts and in our price range.
