One thing is for sure-one of Wilson or Doumbe wont be here next season. I hope the rumour (which I heard again on some blog) that Wilson is finsihed is total rubbish. WGS said he will be back fairly soon.

Since we now have signed Hinkel is there need to sign coelho sine we already have Doumbe, Wilson and Caldwell who can play right back. I just dont see the point.

Talk is he will be played wide right midfield not RB. The Brazillian guy who posted above (assuming he really is) says he is crap which is worrying. Hope its a trial as some have said. IMO we need more left sided players. We have far too few left footed players these days.

Bonhof said Hinkel can civer leftback

Rainer Bonhof believes Celtic have purchased two top-quality defenders for the price of one in Andreas Hinkel. The German international completed his £2million move from Sevilla to the SPL champions on Friday and is set to make his debut at right-back in next weekend's Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion. Injuries to Mark Wilson and Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe have seen Gary Caldwell perform out of position over the past couple of months and Hinkel's arrival will allow the Scotland defender to challenge for a place in a more central role. However, Bonhof has revealed that Hinkel can easily adapt to playing on the left flank, too, a fact which will please manager Gordon Strachan. Left-back has been just as troublesome a position at Parkhead, with Lee Naylor the only natural for the role, and Bonhof believes Strachan has just acquired cover for both flanks. "Hinkel is good on the ball and also has a lot of pace," said the former Scotland Under-21 manager. "He can operate well as an attacking full-back and can also deliver a good ball into the box. "In that sense, he is perfect for Celtic because the team spends so much time going forward. "He is predominantly right-sided but he has good technique and is also comfortable on his left. If Celtic need him to cover on the left side, then there is no problem." Bonhof, who is currently occupying the role of Chelsea's German-based scout, admired Hinkel's performances for former club Stuttgart — and he was not alone. The defender's good form earned him 17 caps for Germany and, although he narrowly missed out on a place in Jurgen Klinsmann"s squad for the 2006 World Cup Finals in his homeland, he still earned a transfer that summer to La Liga. Unfortunately for Hinkel, he found his involvement at Sevilla limited by the presence of Daniel Alves, the Brazilian player whom Chelsea attempted to purchase for a fee reputedly in excess of £20m last year. Despite being rated as the best right-back in the world, and repeatedly linked with a move away from the Spanish side, Alves has remained loyal to Sevilla and was part of the team which lifted the UEFA Cup at Hampden Park last season. Hinkel was never likely to dislodge him and Bonhof believes his compatriot has made the right choice of club with which to kick-start his career. "Hinkel has proved he can play at the top level. He was part of a very good Stuttgart side which came very close to winning the Bundesliga in 2003 and his level of consistency was excellent," added Bonhof. "He was a regular in the national team but injuries started to affect him and he fell down the pecking order but he is capable of fighting his way back to that level. "The only problem I can see for him would be that he has to change from Spain to Scotland. "He"s moving between two totally different football cultures and will need to adapt quickly. "But I have no doubt that he will. Physically, he is strong and won't have any problems handling himself in Scotland. "His mentality is also excellent. He"s a very good professional. "It is just a question of how fast he adapts. As long as he can get to grips with it quickly, I'm sure he will be a big success. "This is a move which suits everyone. Celtic are a very good club, well run and regularly compete in Europe, which is good for the player. "As for Celtic, they are getting a quality player without having to pay too much money."
