I think the idea of humanely killing animals is a myth. Short of -- for example -- using a caddle prod to force a cow into a bin, flipping them upside down, slitting their throat, ripping out their jugular, dumping the cow onto the ground while still upside down, then sticking them onto a hook (again upside down) to let the blood drain... all while the cow is still alive.
The general idea should be to kill the animal and get it on with it.

I don't know a lot about the killing methods used here but the 2 photos in my first post with the dolphins lined up on the "beach" looks like they sever the neck and carry on. If I'm right with that analysis, it's about as simple and straightforward as it gets -- unless you're looking for lethal injections or something crazy like that.

What they're supposed to do is take a metal pin and stick it in the back of the neck, which kills them instantly. When you cut their arteries, because they're so tightly packed, they go crazy and panic and can attack each other, which is why you see some of them with the busted up noses. It's just a generally unpleasant practice.

But, as an aside, your user pic is pretty epic given this discussion. :56:

That's in Japan where you can't really get photos of this anymore (they do it in tents or some other way out of public eye). I'm not sure there is any law in Faroe Islands.
But you'd have to admit, it's still a lot more straightforward than what I described happens to cows destined to be kosher meat.

That's just horrendous. People who engage in that should be tortured until they learn a bit of humanity. I'll happily volunteer to do the torturing as well. :38:

 Butchering animals is always going to be a dirty job. It doesn't matter what animal we're talking about either.

Anyway, attempting to get back on topic. Tennessee @ Florida is looking like a good game. 13-6 beginning of the third quarter. Tennessee couldn't just stick with the run though, and throws an interception to start the second half off. Ouch.

UW -- winless last year -- has upset USC :eek1:

Watched the last quarter... pretty good show. Locker 21/35 for 270+ yards. Nice.

Can't wait for all the UW > OSU bullshit. :31:

USC continues to drop what should've been an easy game once again to throw their NC hopes into major doubt.

Florida-Tennessee game was annoying, but acceptable, UW game was huge. I was basically losing my voice, this now means that Bama moves up to 3... hopefully TTech can knock off Texas today as well. SEC East and West being 1 and 2 would be cool.

I just can't get into the college football thing. Do Americans feel as strongly about their college team as they do about their NFL team?

For the big schools, even moreso. Places like Ohio State, Michigan, and Tennessee often average crowds 100,000+, Florida's average is about 94,000, USC is about 90,000, etc. There's more passion for it, I think people have a hard time relating to an athlete making millions per year, plus, like in football in Europe, the average fan is priced out of tickets these days. School pride is something that's engrained in kids over here, too. So that logically continues over to college. Attending university here is more than just getting an education, it's like a rite of passage as well and people maintain an extremely close bond to their alma mater throughout the rest of their life.

    * * that's some pretty big crowds! I knew college football was popular but didn't realise it pulled in those sorts of crowds. :97:

How much is it to go to an NFL game then?

I would love to go and see the Dolphins sometime. I think the tailgate parties before the game would be really good fun. Sunshine, barbecued food, a few beers and the Dolphins pumping the Bills. Yes I think I'd enjoy that. :icon_mrgreen:

Cheapest tickets I imagine you could find at a Dolphins game would be $50-70, or thereabouts, so like 35-45 GBP.

If you want a decent ticket that's probably what you'd have to pay to be honest. The cheaper tickets are really high up. NFL stadiums can be massive.

I suppose since there's only 16 games in a season(for most teams) they can hike the price up a bit.

How much does it cost to go to a baseball game then? I'd imagine that would be cheaper.

Yea, and when you factor in that half the games are home, that's only 8 games for the teams to make their money... so yea, going to only on game is as much as some people can afford but that one game means a ton to the season, so it's evened out I guess.

But yea, baseball games are much, much cheaper, unless you are trying to see the Yankees or the Red Sox.
