yet another pointless thread by the strachan bashers!!!!
when will yous wake upand see that the position we r in just now is mainly down to o'neill? he walked away last year and left us in a * mess!!! he had no idea of forward planning, how to use the transfer market (not 1 bosman in 5 years ffs) or youth development!!!!:47: if he was still here last year's player of the year would be playing in england cause o'neill was far too loyal to his favourites and would never have given him first team football!!! but hey lets forget all that eh? lets go back to trying to sign has beens on the last day of the window (yorke, desailly) lets go back to blowing the budget given your favourites massive * contracts when they are over the hill (thompson, sutton, lambert, balde, agathe etc) lets go back to the days of bringing guys in on big wages and never giving them a chance (henchoz, gray, juninho) lets do no scouting for new players at all and just take whatever pish we can get during the last few days of the window (sylla, henri camara) and lets go back to pishy long ball football that made going along to celtic park seem like a punishment at times!!!!!
everyone wants to get a * grip, yes o'neill years were good (except the last one which was a * disaster) but there gone so * stop crying about it and deal with it!!!!:47:

gerry_bhoy I dont think the board would free funds no matter if they had Jose Mauriniho as Boss and Frank Riykaard as his assistant......The bottom line being those in charge of Celtic are more interested in pleasing the plc than they are the fans. Sure, those tactics will keep the club on a sound financial footing but will it bring silverware to the club? I doubt it. Wanmadtim

for its a grand auld team to play for
I say keep GS and get rid of the other people that are supposed to be taking Celtic forward.
All teams sign players that may not make it shortly after they sign, but its a * disgrace that players get kept and continue to be played when they are not good enough, my point is, we had a good player at left back McNamara, but the shame was he is a right sided player, so therefor why oh fukcing why has there NOT been another good player put in there other than Wilson, when the shame is he is a right sided player.
What a shambles said it before the season started and say it still.
Rangers have announced they are looking to buy another defender, bet they do, and Hearts may be a better squad than I thought, cause I didnt think they were going to sign players?
This Celtic squad is worse than last season and we have not only the SPL and domestic cups to contend with, but the CL.
Bet those negative people running Celtic are smiling, bet they have the money already counted for the end of this season, even if we win nothing this present season.
Lately I said it was a two horse race between Celtic and Rangers, well with NO light at the end of the tunnel, I most certainly may have that wrong.

A lot of sense written above Ryan67, i agree with most of what you say. MON is a very very shrewd individual. His critics would say he jumped ship knowing the squad he had would be too old and not good enough for another season. He would have known the financial situation and that he would be given NO more money to spend... the time for HIM was right to leave. Now he takes on another win win situation job at Villa......The place is a shambles team wise and structurely unsound from the bottom up.....Whatever MON does he cannot really lose......just as when he first came to celtic...we were dire, going nowhere. Martin got a nice lump of cash to spend and built himself a team......see the scenario repeating itself at Villa? ...............You cannot berate the man for being shrewd....good on him.....He done us a turn...but like Ryan67 said.......He's gone. You certainly wont see him crying to be back at Celtic.....He knows his shares are in good hands. wanmadtim

Get a grip ? Have you bin watching celtics build up to the season and the game against hearts yesterday ? The team itself just doesnt look interested in playing and its up to Gordon Strachan to get the players motivated enough to win them sorta games. I mean a guy who is persistant in playing Paul Telfer who's performances are * one after the other just doesnt have a clue and why sell John Hartson ? Zurawski and Miller arent that good in the air so why do we cross balls into them when were on the attack ?

I have a growing fear that GS is a virus in the Celtic set-up.
He responds to every question with humour. There weren't many Celtic fans laughing after that result on Sunday. Or am I wrong?

Lennon, although getting on, is the only steel we have in the middle of the park, he should have went straight back in.

Paul Telfer? If there is anyone who thinks this guy was EVER a player, I've to meet him. He is an absolute joke.

The defence is atrocious, so GS signs Caldwell. Just what you need to settle the defence - another panic merchant who gives the ball away left, right and centre. I never thought I'd see the day when I was looking forward to Bobo coming back into the team.

GS has signed Riordan, so leaves him kicking his heels when we equalise then brings on Lennon? Playing for a draw GS or were you thinking of Lennon's surging runs forward and defence splitting passes, that could win us the game? I fear it was the former.

For the first time since the dark days of the early 90's, we appear a team that is adrift in the sea of mediocrity, and the wind ain't going to take us towards respectability any time soon.

If GS wins the title this year, I'll eat my hat. How's that for humour GS?

give it time hubert(and not a lot) we ll see how strachan does, me personally , I think strachan has made too many mistakes already, we ll see what happens, I dont think gs will be there at the end of the season and we still have a lot of pain to go through.

2 trophies last season he won us... Huns = 0 trophies / bottle of lucozade.. /sacked manager. not enough some say eh ?..... alright sundays result was not good enough and some of his signings might be questionable ... but some have been of real quality ....as with all managers .... and its very early days and some people i know for a fact just wont accept wgs end of .... hes gotta be irish right ? for some people / steeped in our tradition to be accepted ... but i dont buy that ....first wee blip then people call for his head .... what if mon was still on charge and we lost on sunday ?? would the knives be out ? no chance.... all im saying is give the guy a chance he needs money from the board yes .... but we wait and see .... we will have silverware at the end of this season yet again . i know that much .. regardless of what happens.either way .... as we are Glasgow Celtic Football Club...

Sound post MadTim67! I have said it before and i`ll say it again GS is doing a decent job with whats at his disposal and the obvious cash restrictions he has to deal with when delving into the transfer market.

As it stands he is manager of Celtic Football Club and should be given our backing as fans of the club. No manager can please everyone....*, when MON was winning us games regularly there were those bemoaning the fact the football was'nt entertaining enough!

Never mind this playing football in the celtic way garbage. The Celtic way is to WIN games first and foremost. Tommy Burns team produced some of the best football seen at Celtic Park in many a year but his team wasnt great trophy wise.

Give Gordon Strachan the chance to get the team going in the right direction, it is very early days in the season, if at the end we are bereft of silverware that's the time to voice any discontent......Not now. Wanmadtim

out of the c/l at the first time of asking ..out of the scottish cup ....won the egg cup(league)....won the league against the "WORST RANGERS TEAM IN HISTORY" fact, and a self destructing hearts team..the writings on the wall...if we dont act now we ll end up third in the league, now that theres no chance we will get into the epl dermot has lost interest..isnt that why he bought into celtic?... and not as he suggests his "emotional" attachment...I think emotional = profit to dermot...the alarm bell has stopped ringing ..it burnt out ages ago...we cannot afford to be complacent for a nano second...were heading for a long period of mediocrity ...all dermot wants is a debt free celtic so he can get out..with profit ..hence the the importance placed on fiscal matters over the standard of the team...maybe its time for the celtic supporters to own the club ...I for one would be happy to forego profit to enhance the team...maybe if mc cann had kept his promise to sell his shares to the fans and not to his already rich speculating friends..we would be in a better position ...maybe its time for a revolution ...time for the fans to take control of the club..I m sure we couldnt do any worse...at least we would have a say in the direction of our club...with genuine emotional attachment!

I have been supporting the Club for forty years Green Submarine there is no need to remind me of 'the way it is' or what is required of a Celtic manager. If you re-read my post you will see i said GS was doing a 'decent job' with "whats at his disposal and the obvious cash restrictions'. I think that is fair unbiased comment. You also might note that nowhere do i mention the board or Dermot Desmond's in my post. Although i do agree that Dermot Desmond main priority now is to make sure when he leaves Celtic he does so without losing money.

From a business point of view and him obviously a successful one that could only be expected. Anyone who listens to someone like Mr Desmond state that he has a strong emotional attachment to anything other than his bank book and wallet need to become more worldly wise.

At this point in time calling for a revolution and for the fans to take over the club is not what we need. We all have strong emotions toward the club, but strong emotion and a love for the club aren't enough to bring success, that's unfortunate, because if those were the criteria for footballing success then Glasgow Celtic would surely be the No1 club in world football with the emotional ties and love of the club we all have had from infancy.

For Gordon Strachan to have success this season the money men in control of our club MUST release funds for the manager to go out and buy the players he has indicated he wants. It looks like the men in charge of the clubs coffers have eyes only for balancing the books. I know there are those among us who say the board must remain prudent so as to avert the club from falling into the financial quagmire we found ourselves prior to Fergus McCann's involvement....But still, surely there comes a time in any business plan when one MUST speculate in order to accumulate?

In order for the club to progress both on AND off the field those men in suits MUST release substantial funds for new player and they MUST be released NOW! Wanmadtim
