I don't know where people get this "running costs" argument from! :smiley-laughing002: If the board are relying on European football, which is far from guaranteed, and tens of millions of pounds in player sales, also far from guaranteed, in order to keep the club ticking over then they're not doing they're jobs properly. If we hadn't qualified for the Champions League last season, reached the last 16 and made more than £20m from player transfers would the club be operating at a loss? The only costs you can reasonably deduct from that are the costs of playing in the Champions League itself. The rest should be covered by sales of merchandise, ticket sales, sponsorship and the money we make from domestic football.

Good *, you'd think we've been selling ten million pound players and playing in the champions league every season for the last ten years.

We haven't.

Without Europe and without selling the players on (who were incidentally bought on the cheap) we would not be making very much money at all.

We'd be lucky if were breaking even.

Season ticket sales, merchandise and sponsorship bring in a lot of money, we sold players and did well in Europe, but any business would look to operate at a profit, put money aside as a safety net and look to do the same again.

Where are the £6million signings in the team? There are none. Not one.
Do you know why? Because the club operate a spending policy that is based on a percentage of the money that came in, not someone's love affair for a player who plays for the Icelandic national team.
