My guess is that we'd struggle to get any player of "European quality" for less than £5 million. He operate in a strange market where Fulham can spend £11 million on Ross McCormack in the championship, while we're spending £2 or 3 million on strikers and wondering why they're not prolific in Champions League qualifying or the Europa League.

Hence why we have to gamble of players from other SPL teams or cheaps castoffs from other teams and hope they eventually become what is required for CL level.

Look, i think this is a dead duck. Lazy Journalist hyping a story from nothing but history, and based on history I'm dreading the 50page thread before it doesn't pan out.

That said, we were very keen on him and it was only the fee that put us off. He was being touted for 5-7M and we only rated him at about 3-4M. Now, with a couple of 'flops' behind him he may be in the 3.5M region, and firmly on our radar. At that price, with the possibility of going to a 7-8M player if his confidence returns it could happen...

Going to say yes, purely for what he showed in Holland.

He's the kind that could easily score a tonne for us domestically yet still be made into a good player for Europe. Whether he is just another example of this 'Eredivisie striker' curse or not, who knows. I'm not going to say no though. Especially when we operate in * Scotland.

26..Scandinavian...not had a great time of late...prolific in his last club before a big move..now looking to settle down and get regular playing time again...sounds familiar.

We have to sign him. He was sold for e7.5m last time meaning his club will likely take a loss. 4m sterling is 5.5m euro. They might even take less than that.

4m is nothing when you consider how we have bought strikers in the past. Pukki, Scep, Bangura, Balde (possibly Ciftci). All bought for between 1 and 2 million. If we operate under the assumption that our striker next season and the season after will have similar success to our historical targets in that price range then why not gamble the lot on Finnbogason?

If we sign him and he turns out * we will have to live with not signing a dud the following summer but his chances of being a success are much higher than any of the players named above.

He has genuine quality. I maybe have doubts about his mentality but I would still risk it. For the price he is as good a bet as any to be the other striker we need.

If we did sign him we must do for him what we failed to do for Ciftci and that is let him play with a partner until he is settled in. It doesnt matter if he is used to playing the lone striker role, if we sign him he should not dislodge Griff. Play the pair of them together. A couple of early goals and a consistent run and he;s half way there.

No he shouldn't be compared with Alves or Suarez.

    That's my argument.

I wouldn't think so mate tbh, which is like you walking into a bookies and being told what horse to back despite you studying the others form! You wouldn't accept it!

Is he any better than Ciftci? I can only see his form in holland as being up there with Ciftci.

When did Ciftci ever score 59 goals in 70 games? :56: He only has 39 goals in his entire career!

Folk are acting as though the Dutch League is on par with the Highland league ffs.

    There really isnt :smiley-laughing002: :smiley-laughing002:

If you watch any dutch league football it is clear that they dont really defend, instead both teams start attacking and see who can get the most goals.

I would say there is at least 4/5 strikers who have failed(not been able to get close to the same stats) when leaving the league for every good one.

Players like Suarez stand out with there all round play in Holland rather than just going by the amount of goals they have scored.

Of course they won't be getting the same stats for the most part, if they leave Holland for big money they are going to Spain, Germany or England which are far better leagues.

Plenty of strikers over there are successful elsewhere though and holding up Samaras and Alves as examples of why we shouldn't buy this guy is a nonsense.

At the end of the day, I could maybe understand us turning our nose up at a strikers record in Holland if we were operating in England or Germany etc.

However we play in Scotland. He clearly has some quality about him with scope to improve on a European stage perhaps. For a price of 3 million or so and with our recent record regarding strikers in mind, I'd say we should without doubt go for this. If possible of course.

Either that or go for Kramaric who is nowhere near the Leciester City team. Send his agent a selection box as an apology for last time.
