What I would like to know is, if we value him at 700-800k which we do if the papers are to be believed, why the * are we going in with 400k bids? Are we for * real? * taking the * and scrabbling over 400 * thousand? We have 1 left back at the club and we are wasting our time with 400k bids? I'm sure PL gets frustrated when teams take * with bids so why the * do we consistently put in these * pointless bids when we are happy to bid double? * me man if you want to sign the * put the money in and get on with it before he joins someone else like McGinn.

    Record

Charlton have told Celtic Alfie Doughty is not for sale – even though he is out of contract in the summer.

The League One side have kicked out a second bid for the 20-year-old from the Scottish champions believed to be around £500,000.

The Addicks are refusing to play ball over an asking price and have told the Hoops they don’t want to sell him. Celtic failed with an opening £400,000 bid and now have to consider whether they try again or wait and sign Doughty on a pre-contract.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has urged Doughty to sign a new deal as his best opportunity for first-team football would be with his current employers.

The other issue is a complicated struggle for power at the London club and that has also impacted on any outgoings or signings.

Neil Lennon could get him for a cut-price deal cross border but if he was to remain in England then Charlton would be in line for a significant six-figure compensation package.

Doughty has played most of his football at left midfield but Celtic want him to fight it out with Greg Taylor for the left-back slot.

If they can’t get a deal over the line Celtic may need to look at a short-term loan option as cover.

Not sure if this has been posted yet. Few clips of him. Not a whole lot to go on, but he looks very quick and direct.

Interesting thread, actually. He was in the top 10 for expected assists last season in the Championship. Playing for a relegated side, and in a host of different positions.

Wonder what charlton value him at , think it might take double the 800k to get them to speak, also there must be some sort of indication from the player he wa ta to come if celtic have submitted a few bids! Not many highlights of the boy to see what hes like

Sounds like we know they need the cash therefore are trying our luck (as always) at trying to get him as cheap as possible.

I don’t know how we cannot thrash out a deal with a club in a situation like this with Charlton. There is no way it should be out there about all these different rejected bids. Particularly when the increments of the bids are so small.

This lad seems like he has a lot of potential but I’m unconvinced that he will automatically solve our LB/LWB issue. He does possess a lot of good attributes and the fact we can get him for a decent feee due to his contract situation is appealing.

But he hasn’t played a great amount of games so he’s still very inexperienced. Don’t want us to end up with two LBs that aren’t ready or good enough to play week in week out.

He seems versatile so I wouldn’t be surprised if he came in alongside a more established LB.

That would be a step backwards for Connell.

Think he would benefit more from that over another season in the development squad.

Can’t see him getting a run ahead of Brown, McGregor, Christie, Ntcham or Turnbull. Soro looks to be ahead of him as well.

We need to make decisions on Connell, Hendo and McInroy. I would keep one and loan the other 2 out to get proper games under their belt.

Maybe a loan would suit but not to Charlton.

I'd like to see him tried in the LWB role.

Connell could comfortably play for a championship side. Maybe lower end, regularly..
