Aiden McGeady

He didn't have his best game last night, as others have stated he looked a bit overweight but the fact that some people want to actively campaign for him to be shown the door is crazy imo.

He's not brilliant, he needs to improve - especially his decision making - but he's still one of the very few creative influences in our team, I want to see our team strengthened not weakend, imo getting rid of McGeady will weaken the team unless we get silly money that is reinvested.

Viper, why ask for examples and then say excluding those that may be given, makes no sense at all.

 

He does many times. Sadly the support we give players on the break has been dire this season. rubbish.

He is double team for a reason....but i take your point.

 

Its fans to say that when they dont rate a player.

Dude, 110% correct, people on this forum mutter on about him being doubled up as if its uncommon and hes the only player on the planet that this happens too....

Its like:

"McGeady had a * game last..... But they doubled up on him"

and they obviously double, sometimes treble up for a reason. It happens to him and only him in the celtic team....i couldnt care less that it happens to messi or ronaldo too.

I was asking for examples, as i knew that there could and would only be a handful of, therefore making an example of this, as being not good enough!

You say he needs to improve...... he has had 7 years... Will we continually say this about McGeady!

he is still fairly young and is our most talented player. I reckon he would have more MOTM awards than most in our team? No?

Plenty other players to criticise and want out before him.

 

Creates in the SPL, and LINKED with a move to Birmingham.... Wheres the rest of the love for this hyped player.... ???

Wheres all the big money bids, the continued adulation from opposition managers, mangers down south and abroad, its a joke!

Any manger down south would need to be off their chumf to make anywhere near a £5M+ bid for McGeady or over....!

 

Celtic apparently turned down a bid in january from birmingham and they are strongly linked with another bid this summer. We don't have ANY players who will attract adulation from the very top teams.....lets get that straight!

I don't see any big bids for any of our players....

 

Ok, so now we get to the crucks of the matter!

The truth is, he isnt fairly young, and by you saying there are plenty more players to critisise before McGeady, more or less says you are hating the non adulation for a player you love.... thats cool, but of all celtic greats, which one ever splited opinion.....?

For me, at no point in his Celtic career has Mcgeady ever been Celtic most tallented footballer.

Keane now, Naka before hand.

 

I would say every player at Celtic needs to improve not just McGeady as we have no finished articles and the chances are we wont have for a very long time unless we get extremely lucky in the transfer market. Some people only like to single out certain players as not playing up to standard when in reality you could list the entire team at times.

As I said he needs to improve certain areas of his game, however, in a squad as poor as ours I don't want to force our better players out of the door unless we get silly money that will be reinvested in the team.

If you ask for examples and people give them you can't then just disregard them it shows a lack of respect to others opinions, you can disagree with them all you want but there is no need to disregard them straight off the bat, very poor form of debate imo.

 

Keane isn't a celtic player and Naka is gone!

I don't love the player but i don't like seeing unfair criticism of him which it is week in week out imo. Fans EXPECT him to turn it on week in week out as hes held up as the flair player.

Naka had many many anonymous games as well.

McGeady is our most talented player at the moment bar none.

 

Exactly who is saying he's a Celtic great, the only person I've seen use the words Celtic great and McGeady in the same sentence is you, I've yet to see anyone that sticks up for him say he's a Celtic great.

 

100% agree. Nobody is claiming hes world class!!

 

I disregard the opinion, including yours, that McGeady is a great player.... Apologies if I have disrespected anyone by the way.... But i havent.... The whole McGeady issue just seems to get people het up a bit to much.

So the argument comes down to me saying that hes seen as a Celtic great.... OK.... Not a Celtic great, but a great Celtic player!

I can't think of any celtic player in the last few seasons who deliver on the BIG STAGE enough.

He has delivered in Europe with some very good performances. Yes, hes had some very average games too....but i don't see anyone else being singled out.

 

To be fair, Naka was non-existent at times as well. By the way, if Keane is not a Celtic player, why the * has he been wearing a Celtic jersey since January?!?!?!?

Anyway, back to McGeady. The first couple of seasons, he was good...very good. But then the third season came along, and suddenly all the full-backs he had been playing against for the past ten years started coming through at their clubs, or were released by Celtic (Charlie Mulgrew an example here), and they cottoned on to exactly what he was all about.

When he pulls it off against someone, its great. But then he does nothing with it. I would just love to see him take it past someone, and then whip a cross in. Don't bother turning back and trying to take it past the same player again because by then, it's given a second player to close you down as well, which is where McGeady gets caught out. He needs to learn, and should've learnt years ago, that doing the simple stuff can be just as beautiful as doing all the fancy things.

As for his tackling. We have all known he's not the bravest boy in the world, so there's nothing new there. What has happened now though is that he has begun to believe he is better than what he is, and it comes from his father hyping him up all the time as well. Under O'Neill/Strachan, he would at least track back and try and win the ball back. Now...nothing. That's what really infuriates me. Samaras gives up, and he gets dogs abuse. McGeady gives up, and not a lot is said.

For me, the turning point came last year with Strachan when the "incident" happened in the changing room. That showed me that he believed he was bigger than the Club. You never talk down to you're manager in any way no matter what you're doing for a living.

He has not played well this season, and in my opinion hasn't improved under Lennon either. Brown, N'Guemo, Fortune, Kamara, Hinkel, Naylor and even Samaras to a certain extent have all improved.

McGeady still seems to be the moody wee boy he always has been. Sadly.

 

Again, I haven't said he's a Celtic great or even a great Celtic player, what I have said is he is currently one of the best players at the club (admittedly in the current team that's not saying much) my argument is why weaken the team by getting rid of our better players?

You didn't disregard an opinion you asked for examples and then said they didn't count so you disregarded peoples arguments without even giving them a chance to type them.
