McGeady is better than the vast majority of our wingers COMBINED ffs. Let's not kid ourselves here, and this is coming from someone who's constantly been critical of his performances for Ireland.

If we resigned Aiden, I think I'd run down the straight naked and do a somersault into a snow-pile.

    Imagine a team of:

    Gordon
    Lustig Denayer Van Dijk Izaguirre
    Brown Armstrong
    McGeady Johansen Guidetti
    Hooper

Even though we almost certainly won't have Denayer or Virgil here next season :54:

    * it, just sign McGeady and I'll be following you into that snow :smiley-laughing002:

Aiden was fantastic for us a true entertainer! Exciting, dangerous, and actually good against European opposition for us (thinking ACMilan especially) but his time has been & gone!

Is he still a good player? Well of course he is he's a talented boy! But, as things stand now we have an absolutely huge squad! A serious amount of deadwood to cut & burn from the team.

Ronny now has Forrest, McGregor, GMS, Duffy, Stokes, Commons & Armstrong all able to play the wide/inside forward role! Now would McGeady start? Probably. will he improve & get better? No. I just can'

t accept that he'd be worth the outlay of what £3-4million plus upwards of 25-30k PW!!! The guys we have now are talented, young, fresh & importantly have plenty of scope to improve bar Commons & Stokes!

Look if he's available ridiculously cheaply and wages wise would be fair the absolutely. I want good players at Celtic no question! He'd even be a good tutor/role model for younger players to look up to. He's steeped in Celtic tradition, knows the club inside out, is a fan, was borne up under the tutelage of MrCeltic himself!! He knows everything about the club and is rightfully loved by the fans as he was fantastic for us!!

For me though it would be a step back & what kind of message does it send out to the young guys we've just signed? At some point you just have to hold your hands up, take stock of what we currently have and say that's enough we're happy with the players we have in these positions!!

Resigning Aiden would be a luxury to be honest I have more pressing concerns regarding our Centreback positions if we lose VVD & Denayer! Also a replacement for izzy is right up there in the list of priorities as well as sorting something with Guidetti or replacing him with a quality forward!!

It sounds ridiculous the idea of us signing McGeady, Hooper and Guidetti but I actually think it's very possible if Van Dijk leaves. Also very possible that none of the three come but we will see.

The guy's 29, he's not finished by any stretch (I know you never said he was finished)

Just because he was here before doesn't mean that signing him again would be a "step back". If he had never been here before and wasn't a Celtic fan, this rumour would be laughed at because of how ridiculous it sounds. That's the kind of quality he has.

What message would it send to the young players we've recently signed? I think it would send the message that we are a club with ambition and true quality. They'd be delighted to get the chance to play alongside him as opposed to feeling aggrieved that the club don;t feel they already have enough quality in that position.

I realise what you're saying in regards to already having plenty of quality in that position already.. but that's irrelevant in my opinion when it comes to having the chance to sign a guy of McGeady's undoubted class and ability.

Signing McGeady would instantly make us a better and more feared side.

One of McGeady's biggest traits when he first emerged was not just his skill but his ability to move well at top speed. I know he'll probably lose his speed soon, but he'll always be an amazing talent and we'd be immensely better with him in our side. Smart fella too. We need more football brains in our side.

I'm not against Aiden coming back at all, as you say he's only 29 you'd get 4 seasons out of him no problem. My issue is the positions of the team we actually need to improve in or replace possible outgoings! It dosen't really matter how much we sell Virgil for because it probably wouldn't all be reinvested anyways but 2 Cbs a LB and a striker for me is where I see us having to do be proactive in, in the summer. If however we fill those positions and Peter wants to give Ronny a wee early Xmas present in Aiden? then I wouldn't be against it! I pay my season ticket because I love the club but I also want to be entertained and McGeady certainly done that in the past!

Totally agree with you. 2 new CBs, a left back and Guidetti are a must between now and the Summer.

If and when he does lose the speed he could be made into a number 10 and put in behind the striker...just a thought.

Think of the creativity of a squad with Commons, Mcgeady, Mckay-Steven, Armstrong, Stokes, Forrest, etc.

He was a great outball in europe in the sense you could give him the ball and he'd take 2 or 3 players on and try and win a foul or even just carry it up the park.

Agreed 100% getting Guidetti to sign permanently should be the focus of the board & Ronnys attentions (off-field) until he makes a decision. Would also argue that some fans really need to lay off him & actually try supporting the fella a bit more than they have recently. He's not in great form but 11goals in 12 at the start of his spell (regardless of this OpenPlay nonsense that folk are cottoning onto )speaks volumes!! The guy is for me top drawer and will only get better plus he is a character, a real personality and has that Gallus swagger that we all love to see in top players!

Aiden will definitely be back for one last hurrah, just like Maloney.

Aiden will be a Celtic player again as long as the stars aline.

The Summer could very well be that time.

He fouled Samaras when we were running down the clock and gave a wee smile. :smiley-laughing002:
