Morning chaps and chapettes
Looking for wee bit of help, I picked up my laptop late on last night, to check the Murray score in the tennis, and it just shat itself and came up that it had a virus. Right out of nowhere at all, I was on the BBC Sport website and it just went. I ran AVG which didnt pick anything up, but my Desktop picture had changed to what looked like a warning from Windows XP. I reckon it was definitely a fake, then a program called XP Mate or some pish started running.
I ran AVG Again and clicked for it to closedown on completion, wake up this morning and the laptop is still on. Closed it down, had to pull the battery, started it up again, it goes mental for a bit and the the "Blue screen of death"
On restart it just seems to be getting overloaded, as if theres a million things running, and I cant click system restore or anything. I might need to re-install, but I have got pics of my kid and stuff on there, and no back up.
Ideas ???

Boot up in Safe Mode (Tap F8 when you turn it on, or F5) Run Anti-virus programs and remove anything that comes up : )
Another thing to do is go to Run > type in 'msconfig' > Go to the 'Startup' tab and see if there's anything you don't know in there (they'll have odd names not related to the program at all). Untick them and it should stop said programs from running next time.Last edited by a moderator: Sep 4, 2008 -

Can I ask, did you manage to get the computer running sort of well enough to get the stuff off? I could stick everything I want to keep onto 1 DVD, so as long as it would have time for that, I dont mind re-booting it from scratch !! -
Yeah I unticked its properties things so it wouldnt start from startup then the basterding virus shut down all my drivers But i didnt have a USB keyboard so i could still use that then i put ll the stuff onto a Stick and rebooted the comp ntick these 2 things ill post em next
