I don't rate him half as much as some on here do, think getting 2 million is quite good. Hopefully that money can go to buying a decent striker.

Gutted about this. Wish him all the best. Don't think he looked like he had the appetite for it last year, thought he missed Lenny and Ledley.

He can be an exceptional player, will always remember his performance against Barca, was sensational against Sanchez and Messi.

So now you would rather have sold him last year? If we sell our players, we're downsizing. If we let them run their contracts down, it's a criminal waste of assets. Celtic board can't win whatever they do to be honest.

Aye maybe. But he hasn't played down there. He's played in the SPL, not always particularly well, and he has a year left on his contract. That doesn't make him worth £10m.

For some reason there always has to be someone to blame on this site and in large part it's the board. Looking at the situation I get the impression it's all been handled pretty well and amicably.

Warning, speculation and opinion coming in:

PL: Interested in a new contract Adam?
AM: To be honest I've been here for a while, there is a lot of competition, I'd like a new challenge.
PL: No bother Adam, we'll get a replacement and we may have to move you this window.
    AM: Cheers Pete!

Weren't we moaning a while ago that we don't get replacements in early enough in the window? Well now we've replaced a player that isn't in our starting 11, before he actually moves, and there is still tears :56:

We got him for free and like Joe Ledley we are selling him as his contract runs down. If we dont sell now we will either sell in January for a reduced fee or lose him for fre at the end of the Season. We are happy to sign players for free or cheaper as their contract runs out we have to be happy to accept the same happening to us. All in all Adam has been a good servant to the club and has more than paid back what was outlaid on him. Hopefully his talent will continue to blossom.

He's been dying for a move since Ledley left.

He was a decent servant and good luck to him :50:

Boyata is very promising just need 1st team football, Janko os highly rated youngster with lots of potential, GMS and Armstrong made a great impact when they signed and will continue to do so. Hardly * rubbish is it.

Lustig is being eased back into the team, could tell he wasn't as sharp or fit againsg Den Bosch as Fisher was. I expect Lustig to be used sparingly until they are confident he is fully fit. So Janko and Fisher will be the main ones I think.

Matthews was not one of our best players, decent enough but won't be missed hugely. Certainly not if Lustig can stay fit.

Some people picture a scenario where Adam Matthew is a daft wee boy turning up to training buzzing to get stuck in, only to be called into the office by big bad Lawwell and told he's getting shipped off to Sunderland. Then Matthews starts greetin' and begging for a new 5k p/w contract while professing his undying love for Celtic and its supporters. Evil Lawwell just laughs.

Likewise even though we haven't had any decent offers for Matthews or concrete speculation somehow people think if he had 5 years on his contract right now we'd be getting huge offers for him.. Even though he's our second choice RB and Wales's second choice RB.

I'm sure he'll go on to do well but we obviously have a choice between Lustig and Matthews and we've went for Lustig with hopefully a progression on to Janko.

£1.8 million apparently the agreed fee. Not sure if any additional conditions have been negotiated into it, although I think it's unusual of us not too.

If true, can t help but feel we've been short changed on this one. Worth a * of a lot more than that.

A fit Lustig is twice the player Matthews is. He won't be fit for any length of time hence why we have bought Janko.
Janko and Fisher are decent replacements for Matthews.
Lustig is #1 for that position. Getting near on £2million for a back up player in last year of his contract is good business and it's also refreshing to have bought a replacement BEFORE we sold him :smiley-laughing002:

All the best to him. Can't say a bad word about the guy.

His 1st two seasons he was a joy to watch bombing down the right flank. He's stagnated through injuries but if he stays fit and plays then Sunderland have themselves a player.

Everyone is ignoring how good Efe is at RB. I thought he was decent everytime he played there this past season. I'd have him ahead of Fisher at RB.

    I like Matthews. Always have.

But I think this is ambitious. Clearly Janko is highly rated and we're taking a chance on him.

It also reminds me a bit of Ajax's policy of letting a regular go because there is someone coming through with more potential. Eg. When they sold Boerrigter to make way for Fischer.

A 2nd choice rb on a free, selling for £2m quid and replacing him with a free highly rated utd rb who will be on lower wages is just good business from celtic. Cant complain here at all tbh.
All the best lad on your next adventure.

I honestly believe he's worth considerably more than £2m - had he played 42 games for Sunderland in the overrated epl, even as a second choice RB, the fee would be closer to £10m.
Can't stand that feckin league and their overinflated transfer fees, wages, etc! Totally distorts the market meaning we sell for comparitive peanuts!
    Financial fair play my *!!!!
Still, good luck to Adam should he make the move.
