Was excellent again tonight, very classy and pacy. and puts in a good tackle.
I hope Lenny keeps in him at RB as he is better than Mark Wilson .

One of the best players on the pitch every time he's played, deserves to be starting based on form.

He also links really well with Forrest and our best performances have been when those two have played together.

It'll be interesting to see Matthews and Wilson battling it out for the RB position this season. Competition is healthy in all aspects and if anything, it'll make both men step up their game.

Very impressed with the youngster again tonight though. Another steal from Cardiff, or so it seems. If only we could give them Loovens back :56:

Only problem he's got is he is perfect for the bench as he fits the criteria for the compulsory under's. If he plays and we need Cha or Wilson on the bench then we've lost another player (Wanyama, McCourt, Ki, Forrest) and have to bring another under in.

    * stupid rule.

I thought the rule was three under-21s in the pool of 18. So we could in theory have 3 outfield players of age and not have to worry about filling the bench. I could be talking absolute baws mind you

Nah you might be right I'm not sure myself just assumed from Lennon's interview regarding Commons being left out that we needed them on the bench but it might be the match squad. Would make more sense anyway.

Would play him over mark Wilson at RB every time. He looks like he can actually play football, ie can beat a man, put a good cross in and defend well at the same time. Mark Wilson is too one footed, and on Sunday I can't remember him doing anything but hoof the ball up the pitch to nobody.

I've been very impressed by him so far - but experience is so important for defenders. A player who looks excellent over several matches can suddenly find himself in a situation he's unfamiliar with and make a crucial error.

We don't want to risk damaging the guy's confidence by totally throwing him in at the deep end.
But at the same time, we should be giving him game time - he certainly merits it.

Balancing act for Lenny to introduce him at the right pace: but I'm confident he'll do it right. :50:

Totally agree with this portion. I love Mark Wilson for his cunning, for lack of a better term. When he plays against better players, he shepherds them into positions that are positive for him. It's a situational awareness that only comes with time. I think that Matthews will get there, but for now Wilson should always be the first choice. I just really like the look of this kid and I hope he stays with Celtic for a while.

Give credit where it's due. He's only 19/20 and already looks like he could hold down a regular first team place at Celtic. Think about how good he will be by the time he's 24, unless, * forbid, he gets a serious injury.

    I'm not picky.
I'm pretty sure that even if the under age player is on the park from the start it still goes towards the under rule. As long as you have the 3 under 21s within either the starting 11 or the selected 7 subs it's ok.

Only thing you can't do is combine the ruling of having to have a sub 'keeper and the 3 under 21s player i.e. if you have an under 21s 'keeper on the bench that doesn't count towards the 3 named under 21s players.

As for Matthews, I think he played well last night and hopefully it won't be long before he can get a good run. Seems confident on the ball and seems very mature as well for only 19. Couple of times last night it looked like he might have got himself in trouble by not playing the ball sooner but he kept his head, didn't panic and kept the ball.

    Way forward for me, definitely.
