    * off. This summer? Why do we always do this? We are a joke for letting experienced established players deals run down.

Scary to think that he'll have been here for four years by this summer and he's still only 23.

We really have done well to keep him here for this long.

Long may it continue, brilliant buy and servant for the club.

Must be hard for Matthews. He knows Lustig is first choice and instead of taking the huff he's knuckled down and got on with it.

Was very harsh on him earlier this season but he's turned it around.

However I still see his long term future further up the park, that performance in the San Siro was excellent last season. He'd be a fantastic counter attacking option in Europe.

He'll never be a long-term option further up the park under Ronny imo. He is ideally suited to the way he likes his full backs to play, but what he asks of his wingers is just totally out of Matthews comfort zone; cutting in, linking the play, interchanging positions with the other two behind the striker. Matthews would need to be completely retrained to play it.

Last few games I thought he's been great, some excellent link-up play and movement. If Denayer doesn't come back next season I'd be reasonably happy with Lustig moving into the CB position and Matthews being our fist pick at RB. We do seem to have injury problems with this position though and I'm not sure young Fisher would be a strong enough back-up for Matthews, I guess it will depend on what happens with the CB pairing and if either of them are here next season.

That's the team I play on FIFA lol.

Lustig is solid at CB so id be happy with that also. If VvD and Denayer both move on we will probably need another CB and start playing mulgrew there again.

Definitely improving after a torrid spell after injury..

Unlucky not to score yesterday as well, looks far more confident. Just hope he gets back to the glimpses he's been showing of beating men consistently and not hesitating like when he did for our first Thursday and to have no fear in the tackle, he stands off too much for my liking..

Definitely showing good signs, which is massive considering the superior lustig is still weeks away going into the inter return, the sheep and two united cup games..

I thought Bitton was motm last thursday against Inter but having watched the game again a couple of times I have to say Matthews was outstanding and not far off. His calmness and composure on the ball, even at 0-2 down was great to watch, especially considering he's only 23, a lot of players could have buckled.

Just want him to get at the opposition full back a bit more when he gets into the final third, has the ability to cause teams all sorts of problems.

Playing ever so well at the moment, if you compare the last time he played Aberdeen and McGinn, it's like watching two different players.

Seems to have a good early understanding with GMS and both have pace to burn.

I'd be lookng to get him signed up on a longer deal and convert Lustig to CB. I'd like to try this before we lose Denayer.

Mathews is perfect for the Ronny system.

I am a big Matthews fan, but I thought for the first 45 mins he was particularly poor yesterday. That being said he had a great second half and was really good outlet for us.

His composure in the final 3rd is one of the best in our team at the moment.

    Completely agree with this :50:

Thought both he and Ambrose struggled to cope with McGinn and Hayes (before he went off) in the first half, but once we stamped our authority on the game and took control, both did well. In Matthews' case it may have been a case of having a continental hangover, as he definitely started slowly.

I think the whole team were on the back foot for the first 35mins, only rememeber McGinn getting to the byline once and getting a cross in.

When Mathews is playing well nothing gets passed him and I think he's recaptured that form.

Think he leaves a lot to be desired defensively, however been doing better going forward of recent.

    Playing well at the moment.
