Glen Johnson and ivanovich are better as well.

 

Ivanovic, Johnson, Rafael, Zabaleta, Sagna, Walker and Debuchy are all more accomplished, and more experienced.

He obviously has great potential, but he's got a long way to go.

 

I wouldn't say Rafael, Sagna (this season), Walker or Debuchy.

I certainly know which one has been the best in The highest level you can play at football this year.

People tend to both underestimate and oerestimate our players. He's on the same level and better defensively than both Walker and Rafael for me. Miles ahead of prople like Angel Rangel down south.

 

Cannot be a coincidence. Infact, Adam himself came out a couple months back and said McGrain had helped him and the other full backs already

And on the comparison debate the only RBs I can think of currently ahead of Matthews are: Johnson, Rafael (hate the little rat * but he's improved massively this season) and Zabaleta who's probably the best RB in Britain. Micah Richards was ahead as well 'til he got his bad injury.

But I still don't honestly think there's any u21 right backs better than Matthews.
Certainly no other full backs in Europe this season who made Messi, Sanchez and Pedro look like a bunch of fannies.

Its hard to judge for me, the only way you could compare him to the rest if he was playing against the quality that the EPL rbs would come up against week in week out.

 

I dont think Johnson, Sagna or Debuchy are any better than him.

Ivanovic is better but a completely different type of player.

So really only Rafeal and Zabaleta compare (at the moment)with him as an attacking right back imo

 

Debuchy is much better, and Sagna and Johnson are quite a bit better. They've both got much more experience than Matthews though. No reason why he can't get to their level in time.

 

I think we overestimate the EPL a bit sometimes. Gary Caldwell was not deemed good enough for us but has been playing regularly for Wigan for a few years, captaining them now I think. Matthews would have no problem in the EPL. I can't say how good he is compared to those other guys, but he's a big talent, and a proper modern fullback who's handy on the wing and up the field. Cracking goal the other day.

 

Most was a bit hasty, but there's about 5/6 who are currently more rounded, more experienced players in that position.

Johnson, Sagna and Debuchy are all International footballers who have played at the top level and performed consistently for a number of years.

Matthews has only just started out on the road. If he continues to improve at the current rate, he could be better than all the guys we've mentioned.

I would say though that I think Matthews is at a similar level to a few players on that list, and younger than all.

 

Everyone is getting way, WAY, too ahead of themselves.

He is still 21. He is a great player and hasn't looked out of place in the Champions League. Just remember what league he plays in week in week out.

Let's not get daft, it is a habit that us Celtic fans do too often. Me included.

Probably the second best right back in UK this season - Only behind Zabeleta on experience for me.

Sagna has been poor - looks like hes leaving Arsenal in the summer.
Walker is a poor defender, easily out-muscled.
Rafeal - great attacker - average defender.
Johnson - Just horrible player typical overrated English player.
Ivanovic - Good defender but very inconsistent this season.

 

Hes player of the season imo - Most improved out of all our players.
