Adam Matthews

Outstanding tonight, that's all that can be said really. And he'll never come up against better players.

 

Suited the game perfectly tonight. Against players who like to hit the byline he might not be as strong on the left hand side, but with Barca cutting in at every opportunity he really looked the part.

Thought he was outstanding tonight.

Pity he never had a left foot or Sammy would have bagged our second.

 

A 20 year old free transfer, our second choice right back, playing at left back in an emergency, in a crucial game against the greatest team the world has ever seen?

most of Barcelona's attacks were coming down the left flank, and they just kept running into a brick wall in young Matthews. MOTM was between him Wanyama and Forster for me.

 

His 'poor form' did not last long, the boy is a class act.

I think regardless of form he was always going to start left back yesterday with Izaguirre out injured, Mulgrew or ledley just wouldn't have coped as well with how quick the movement and passing was down that flank

Mathews has definitely grown as a defender since he joined us and has terrific pace which was required more than once last night, great display for being out of position!

fair play to him, he played extremely well last night, tactical masterclass from lenny since alves always comes inside allowing matthews to tackle on his stronger foot.

 

did worry about his form in the run up to this game if i'm being honest, but we know what he can do when he is on form and that was exactly what he was and more.

credit to him and lenny, lenny for sticking by him when he could have easily just stuck Mulgrew there and Matthews for taking it.

 

I was worried when I see Matthews was to start at LB but that was world class from him. Sensational defending against one of the best RB`s in the world, Messi, Pedro, he handled them all brilliantly. Got forward when he could as well

 

I wanted Matthews to start at left back in the first game but he obviously didnt. See to me he is as key as anybody in our team. The big clubs of Europe will want him soon enough, if they dont already. Can't believe he is only 20 years old lol.

 

Adam Matthews best position?

Adam Matthews is one of my fav young players at celtic but i think Lennon plays him at Left back because he had a good game against Barcalona, Which i dont think suites him.
Watching the game today i thought he looked very uncomfortable and would have did better at the right, which is his natural position and has proved with great games in the SPL ALL last season.

Full back. He's equally capable at left back and right back from what I've seen. Very capable right midfielder too but full back is his best position.

 

Still right back for me, though I was very impressed with him at LB against Barca, especially in the first half.
