Adam Matthews

Seeming as no one else has said so I will. Matthews was Celtic's unsung hero tonight, countless times he was well positioned to break up attacks and his recovery pace was pivotal in stopping Athletico in some dangerous positions.

He was outstanding tonight, well played.

 

Never got forward as often as he usually does but he was brilliant defensively tonight. Kept Turan quiet for the most part which a lot of established defenders would struggle to do. Going to be some player for years to come

 

He is going to be a star. Hopefully he is a mainstay in the Hoops backline for 10years.

 

I hope we keep him for as long as possible! For such a young player he was outstanding against the wily Athletico!

 

One wee nervy moment tonight where he lost possession on the edge of the box, but then he actually got stuck in and won the ball back a second later. Great stuff from him again tonight.

He is going to be a star when he hits his peak and is definitely the future of right back at Celtic

 

ANOTHER good game from him, IF kenny dal was scouting i think he couldve been looking at mathews, hopefully not.

 

Excellent young talent class, Again today hope we can keep him here for a good few years.

 

I really hope not, from an honest perspective I reckon around 3 more years at Celtic (I obviously don't want him to leave after that) would do his career the world of good. Hope he stays for at least that duration.

 

completely disagree tonight was his worst performance in a celtic top imo didn't get forward enough and wanted far too much time on the ball and created problems for himself

 

We should all remember too, that Adam Mathews, is still only 19 years old, think how he will develop, over the next year, or two. Hopefully he will do that development at Parkhead for a good few years yet. My own point of view,........ best right back since Danny McGrain, closely follow by Jackie Mac.

 

haha i remember those deluded Cardiff City fans having a last ditch dig at him when he signed for us. outstanding buy.

No way! Tinted specs on. Mark Wilson last season was better than Matthews performances this season. And better than Jackie - now that's just insane! Agathe and Hinkel were more established players as well, one of them went to a European final fs! I like Matthews, think he's doing really well but he's not that good yet.

 

Just to put this in perspective he was playing against a much better team than us or teams we would usually play and acquitted himself very well. Only 19 and signed on a free transfer and didn't look one bit out of place.

am not trying to bash the boy a think he is going to be a great player and european football will be a huge learning curve for him but a don't think he played amazing like a lot of people are claiming just giving my honest opinion because he is capable of far more

 

I thought he was excellent last night, very composed on the ball

 

Can't slate a 19 year old boy for an average performance in Europe against superior opponents with more experienced players. Can see a bright future for him, just going to get better. Remember what the weather was like last night when questioning his distribution.

 

with the ball at his feet he was poor last night but he did well from at defensive point of view.
