Speaking of the pitch... never seen it looking so bad. Rain must've been unrelenting lately (he says from balmy Sydney).

Had my doubts about him when he first arrived, thought he'd be past it.

Very happy to be proven wrong!

Celtic coach Ange Postecoglou has hailed the 'outstanding' Aaron Mooy after the Aussie star's double in his club's 5-0 Scottish Cup destruction of Morton.

The 32-year-old Socceroos star - who played under Postecoglou for five years while the supercoach was at the helm of Australia - was named Man of the Match for his exceptional performance at Celtic Park on Saturday night (AEST).

After a slow start to life at Parkhead, Mooy continues to improve seemingly with every match and Postecoglou was left saluting him after his one-time international charge scored twice to bookend the Scottish champions' 5-0 stroll into the fifth round

It ended an excellent week for the much-travelled thoroughbred Mooy, who celebrated reaching his first final with Celtic last weekend with another fine performance in the League Cup semi-final win over Kilmarnock

Postecoglou signed the veteran midfielder on a free transfer, which is increasingly looking like one of his best pieces of business in the coaching caper - and he could not have been more proud of his fellow Aussie.

'Since the World Cup, Aaron has been outstanding for us,' he said after Mooy's double.

The typically modest and softly spoken midfielder was quick to shrug off the praise, keen to keep the attention on the team rather than himself.

'It is about the team, it is not about me. I am part of the team, and when I play I try to help the team,' he told the BBC Scotland broadcast.

'It was a good performance from everyone and a nice way to end the week.

'You can always improve and get better and get fitter. I feel good and feel like I can help by working hard and getting better,' said Mooy.

Not usually the most prolific of goalscorers, Mooy also scored twice against Hibernian just after Christmas, and continues to build a lethal run of form after returning from Australia's World Cup campaign

The game was not without controversy after the opener came courtesy of an extraordinarily harsh VAR decision against former Hoops defender Efe Ambrose.

A soft verdict of handball against former Celtic defender Efe Ambrose left Morton's boss Dougie Imrie raging that VAR was killing football - but Mooy ignored the clamour once the spot kick was awarded to send the keeper the wrong way to open the scoring.

I waited a long time to take the penalty - but the longer it went on, the more chance I thought it would be given,' said Mooy, who calmly slotted the spot kick home.

    Here the whole time
Big spoonful of humble pie time. Was pretty nonplussed by his signing at the time. Thought it was fine as a back up/rotation to cal, but would now rather see him start before o'riley.

Would like to see an extended run of starting games now. Could be invaluable in the cup final, actually think if he'd started at ibrox we wouldn't have lost control of the game.

Certainly don't think he's as phenomenal as some are making out, but is proving to be a vital cog in the machine at the moment.

He's a far cry from the player I called "just a bald James McCarthy" after his first month or so :fear:

Was just missing a cigar yesterday.

I accept it wasn't the toughest opponent, but when did O'Reilly last run a game like that?

He's been immense recently. Slow but always seems to have loads of time on the ball. Just so good at finding space.

Fair play. Thought it was a bit of a lazy signing but he's undroppable right now.

Some players just don't need pace. When you are as clever as he is you find space with a drop of the shoulder or just knowing exactly where to be at all times.

Prosenecki (butchered that spelling) could not run the length of himself, smoked 40 a day, sometimes on the training pitch. Guy was running midfields into his late 30s.

Yes he can, but he won't be going anywhere. His life and family are rooted in Scotland.
